I decided to go for the duck subscription as well. It will fit in with the Ducks Unlimited decoys in my office. I'll have to do some shuffling of counter space when this and my other subscription boxes arrive! The next two ducks in the series, the Wood Duck and Pintail, should look pretty good too. Plus Buck Gardner lives here in Memphis, Tennessee and is a friend of one of my co-workers. His brand of calls are quite popular in this region. I guess it wasn't too hard to talk myself into this one!!

Quote: 25 cent duck coin is a stand alone coin not part of any series I was told by mint rep Respectfully disagree but someone is lying to someone. Same coin design as the bird series, same coin specification as the bird series, same artist as the current bird coin and the duck is a bird. Sorry but I'm calling shenanigans on this one, definitely part of the bird series. You are going to have a hard time convincing people otherwise.

It is part of ducks unlimited annivesary only it is not even the same design I hardly think they would change from the previous format. It will fit in with the bird series though

It's definitely not part of the Birds of Canada series and the description mentions DU but.....not the same design? Same size, same denomination, same material, same finish, same nomenclature and a coloured bird. It's very, very similar and it will get lumped in with the series by collectors.

It will fit in with the bird series though It fit in with the bird series because it is a bird series coin. If it was stand alone why would they make it exactly like a bird series coin. The even named the coin like a bird coin "Mallard - Coloured Coin (2013)". Granted they do put in the description : Quote: • A unique opportunity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Ducks Unlimited Canada. Still a bird series coin. If it is Ducks Unlimited they should use a special sleeve, lets see what sleeve they issue it in.

Duck Dynasty is Duck Commander not Buck Gardner, Jack. It's too bad the set didn't include a Duck Commander call from the Robertson family because it would become extremely popular if linked to the show. With all the other coins this year, they could even have played off of Phil's hatred of beavers.

I tend to agree with those that believe the new 25-cent Mallard Duck coin is not part of the Birds of Canada series. Take a look at all of the Birds of Canada coins, they all share a common design. They have a colourised bird within a circular border and they feature selective colourisation unlike the Mallard Duck coin which does not feature a border but does include a full circle of colourisation (based on RCM images). Also, all of the Birds of Canada coins feature one adult bird not two as with the new Mallard coin. I tend to believe that coins of a series tend to share an artistic design theme. See Go7, War of 1812 $4, O Canada series, etc. Just my thoughts...

I think the main distinction between this mallard coin and the bird series coins is that the mallard is the only one that you would shoot and eat!! (well most people anyway!)
