Quote: The only argument against it is that "mine won't go way up in value now so I can make a quick killing" which isn't what coin collecting is about. Theres a lot more to it than that. Theres several advantages to having a hard to find item besides flipping. Obviously future value is always nice even if you arent selling given the choice every collector would pick to have the value go up. Aside from that nothing gets people more interested in a series than a rarity coming out and causes at least some to chase other items in the mean time if they missed out. The 2011 ASE set surely added interest to the 06 set for example. Theres also the perceived value as well. You dont save every coin you get in change because its nothing special. The mint to demand does take away from the specialness of a set with the well just make as many as are ordered attitude. Ill go back to the ASE sets as an example. A lot of people complained they missed out on the 2011 set and everyone wanted one because of the low mintage. So the mint does a 2013 set with unlimited mintage and a lot of the same people that complained stayed away from it. If you have a low mintage everyone wants it and will complain they missed out, if you have a high mintage fewer people want it. Yes the 2013 mintage was higher but probably half of those were bought by dealers or people to resell them, you couldnt look anywhere without seeing them for sale all over the place. Probably most importantly to collectors though is that trill of the hunt. Going back to circulated change you dont keep it all because its everywhere. But if you find a hard to find coin you keep it because of its rarity and how hard you had to look. The coins most people pay attention too are the sets theyre actively working on and the completed sets do get ignored to some extent at least by comparison. The hunt make the find much more rewarding and in a lot of ways is what makes collecting so enjoyable. If you remove that hunt from everything youll probably remove interest in modern collecting over time, or at the very least make it less enjoyable with how easy it would be. Quote: Am I missing something here, or will there also be "circulation" quality bags and rolls made as well? (IF they decide to do the new designs?) Because, then I might be interested, as I think it will help my cause. They are SURVEYS to see if there is an interest in a potential Mint product. There has been no planned set (either type) as of yet. I believe that they use these surveys to get some idea of collector interest. There has been no announcement of any circ quality rolls/bags for sale at a premium by the Mint. They also have not said they would NOT be minting these for collectors I received a similar survey before the SF ASE set was officially announced.

I would love these as much as I love my 2009 pennies.
As for them minting any for circulation, I highly doubt that. Halves have already stopped being minted for circulation, so why bring them back into circulation when half dollars probably won't even last another 5 years.

I assumed he meant circulation quality coins minted for collectors to be sold in rolls and bags (at a premium) as they are now.
They would not be minted FOR general circulation....

Is the assumption that they would change the design for 2013? I didn't see that but it's been mentioned. I'm in favor of just finishing the series with a regular design 2014 coin, than ending the Kennedy series.
Move to a new classic design for the half... Please don't stop making them!

Oh, now I see. I just assumed since the 09 pennies were minted for circulation that he meant put the halves back into actually circulation. My apologies.

I'm not getting sucked into any more of the mint unlimited commemorative schemes. Quote: When life gives you lemons... Well, ...free lemons, right? No... when life gives you lemons, find someone who's life gives them Vodka and have a party.

Yep. Good idea for annie set although I would have a different reverse design for each, emblematic of JFK's life similar to the reverses of 2009 Lincoln cents. Make it at least somewhat different than just different mintmarks.

I would only be interested in this offering if there was a silver coin in it. I have long ago limited myself to silver only issues for modern coins.
