I have never used their conservation process, so thank you for opting for it... I'm curious to see how it turns out for you, and we have the benefit of before and after pics :)

Having before and after photos to compare presents a nice opportunity to see the quality of their conservation work. Also, I think the clear NCS slab looks pretty neat too. The 1889 Morgan was one of the many Morgans my dad had in his collection, which has now been passed on to me. So, in a way, I feel that by conserving this coin I am also conserving the legacy. So I feel pretty good about it.

My submission status is now back to "scheduled for grading". I'm assuming this is due to the conservation service? No worries, though. Patience is a virtue.

So I assume your coins won't make the promised turnaround time then? Do you know how long the conservation process takes?
My early bird submissions with a 12 day turnaround time has been graded, but has been stuck on "quality control" for a week now. It's been 11 days since the got the coins, so I doubt they can keep their promises. I just want them to move on to "finalizing" so I get to see the grades

The NGC rep told me that the conservation takes a couple of days, so we'll see. Yeah, I'm ready to see the grades too, even though I know there will be DETAILS involved.

LATEST UPDATE: I just checked my credit card statement, and NCS charged me $12.50 for their conservation service on the 1889 Morgan. Not too bad. I can't wait to see the difference.

And . . . . . . the results are in! I must say that I am agonizing over the Bicentennial quarter. The other 4 received about what I expected them to receive. I guess the reverse of the 1879-S Morgan didn't meet the reflectivity standard for PL designation. Oh well. There are no images available on the website, so I'm not sure if the 1889 Morgan is in an NGC or NCS holder. My hunch is that it is in an NCS holder. I'll post pictures when I receive them. By the way, could there be a delay in images showing up from the time the grades are posted? All in all, not a bad experience for me. The results wouldn't be good for someone looking to make a buck from this process. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about that. But I don't plan on sending in just ANY coin in the future. I will be much more selective in what I choose from now on. But these were fun to do. I hope everyone enjoyed following my little journey. I will post a full timeline of this experience once the package arrives.

Im pretty sure NCS stopped slabbing coins and they should all be in an NGC holder.
Sorry to hear about the Bicentennial. Itll be interesting to see some pictures of that one when you get it back. Enviro Damage is an unusual details for a modern to get hit with.

Yeah, that totally caught me off guard. I guess this would be a "rare" designation for that particular coin. Then again, there appears what looks like dirt/grime on the 1776 portion of the date. Maybe I was just in denial. Maybe the toning just blinded me from the obvious. I just wonder what in the world happened to it, especially since the reverse seems untouched.

DM I am happy you got the results, I was hoping for a little better results on a couple of them. It has been very interesting, just watching the process. I think it is a very good learning experience. Thank you for letting us experience the process with you. For me, I feel the chance of grading based on pictures that get posted, has a high chance of being wrong. Of course there are some things the experts can see, for example signs of cleaning and artificial toning. But most of the pictures I see, really enhance the negative areas of a coin. As you posted, it would be better to be more selective in which coins to send in. A lesson I hope I have learned for when I send my first coins in. I hope it is ok to recap what I have saw Quote: So if I have you right so far $39 membership $85 for 5 coins submission (economy tier) Can I ask what you paid for shipping to them? (you posted $22) $24 return shipping
3 days shipping to them and somewhere around 21 days .. or less return. If I have my numbers right, the cost was $34 per coin. I did not include the NCS pricing. I think it is possible to get the cost down some, but not more than a couple dollars per coin. Of course depending on the coins, it could go higher, when required or choosing to use a higher tier. Also I think you sent them in 8/17. You have the grades, but not the coins. So for lower tier we should be prepared for a longer than expected wait.

You summed it up quite nicely, GR58. Yes, the way I sent them in is the cheapest possible ($17.00 per coin). Of course, when I send my next batch in, it should be cheaper since I won't be figuring in the cost of membership. I'm attaching that cost solely to this submission. Again, this was a lost cause as far as an investment is concerned. Of course, that is not what this was about for me. For the future, unless I absolutely just love the look of a particular coin, these 4 are going to be the only DETAILS graded coins in my collection. If I send in 10 coins next time, that will save some money per coin since the shipping costs shouldn't vary much. I will probably do this.

DM ... good point on the price of membership.
Now I think, once you have joined. Your might be able to send in five lower tier submissions, with grading cost, shipping and insurance for around $25 a coin.
