To answer the question about the date, the date on paper money reflects the date in which the design was approved. 1935 silver certificates were printed well into the 1950's.
Over the years, they have modified their criteria for incrementing the date or simply the letter (A, B, C, etc...)

So, now that they have been out for 2 weeks, what are peoples opinion of saving more than One? Unless they are star notes, fancy numbers or consecutive numbers, will they be as common as any other $100 bill. From what is on ebay, the stars bring the most. One person even had a pack of 100 with a BIN price 0f $12,000. Opinions?

Quote: Unless they are star notes, fancy numbers or consecutive numbers, will they be as common as any other $100 bill Likely even more common, several billion have already been printed, they also have a much higher than average star note rate so I don't think the star notes will be as expensive either. That said, if you want to (and have the money) saving one or two wouldn't hurt.

I have to admit I like the new polymer notes from Canada much more. The designs are nicer, the bill is more durable and it is easier to tell if its counterfeit. We should start making the switch to polymer and redesign the notes. I'd love to see things like the 1969 moon landing, Old Faithful in Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, etc on the back of the notes. Real Americana...not a bunch of buildings in DC.

Quote: I got him... Kinda surprised you have them this soon in Germany. Without getting a map out, where are you located in relation to Landstuhl. Was stationed there 40+ years ago. Some of the best years of my life.

Hi mfhorn, I have this bill from a German trader. He told me that he bought a package in New York. I was surprised that he got a Atlanta package in New York. I paid $131 for a bill because I did not want to wait. I live about 80 miles south of Landstuhl. My Town is called Ettlingen which is at the foot of the Black Forest. Though I live in the south but I'm from Hamburg. There are some Hamburg in the U.S. which are named after my city. It pleases me when Americans tell me that they had such a great time in Germany. I've heard something like this a few times. Some U.S. soldiers remained after their service in Germany and have started families here. Germany is not the USA however Germany is no total other world. We have much in common. An American friend from New York City which stay in Hamburg told me few Years ago that there are three cities where he can live well. These places were New York City, Hamburg and maybe Chicago. Anything else would be strange to him :-) ( Sorry for my bad English. )

I got 2 today dumping quarters. I have to say they are really nice. The last 3 numbers on each read 733A and 732A.

Quote: What purpose does it serve putting an old date on the note? They clearly were not issued until this year The BEP does not always change the series year with each change of a particuler bill. The new 100 dollar bills were scheduled to be released in 2009 and those were dated 2009. All of them were ultimately destroyed and these new bills got a 2009 A series date. The feds have been doing this for ages. Quote: they also have a much higher than average star note rate so I don't think the star notes will be as expensive either. That's not what I have heard, it is just the opposite since the quality control on these was much more strict than other printings of new currency. maborshi, check your bills to see if you havwe any in the 05011941 to 05311941 range if so, then you have some birthyear notes which are quite collectible and have a decent premium themselves in addition to the premium for being star notes. Here is one of my new two new star notes. The other serial number ends with 429. Ed LM-3175

hey theforce
What purpose does it serve putting an old date on the note? They clearly were not issued until this year.
unlike coins whose dates change with every year a bills series year will only change in the event of one of the following:
1. either the secretary or the treasurer name changes. 2. a new design is introduced.
hope this helps.

finally got around going to the bank and I asked for a hundred dollar bill and they gave me one of the new hundreds! I am way late on the bandwagon, but this is the first new hundred dollar bill I have gotten in circulation. it is UNC and I can't decide whether or not to save it.
