1/4 oz for 39.99... Same design... Yeah, it's disappointing...

Quote: Yeah, I've just got the email from my Representative announcing the Luckie Loonie.
He advises to order ASAP because he considers it will be a sold out soon. ASAP? As of now there are 7404 coins available at RCM. Assuming they assigned half of the mintage to their supplier, they have sold less than a 100 coins today. I remember it took just about a couple of hours to sell out glass butterfly. That was ASAP!

Where does the number "7404" come from?

I was mistaken with initial available quantity because the buying speed is actually much higher - current number of available coins is 7359. I should assume that it started with 8000 coins.

I'm not really worried about a quick sell out but the previous silver LLs sold 13-52k units and the mintage on this on is only 15k. If you assume buyers want a complete set, this one will have the second lowest mintage...
That said, the 2010 with an actual mintage of 13,285 (max of 40k) was priced at $54.95 plus tax so it did not do well and is still available for issue or less.
I reluctantly ordered the 2014 just to have them all. Really hope it arrives before the games are over.

They are nice, and I compare these to the 20 for 20 series in terms of weight of silver vs price. Essentially to me you are paying double the 20 for 20 price for the mintage of 15x less.
I do think it will be a hot item, price is relatively reasonable and a low mintage...I think people will be even more inclined to buy also due to the fact that January releases were kind of a flop (IMO)...as much as we hate monthly releases I think people are getting used to it and are looking for something to buy.
I snagged 2...with no plans to flip, just really like them and a great addition to my collection!

I budged and ordered one. The low mintage was good enough for me to order it. It's also my first silver lucky loonie so I figure why not add it to my growing collection.

In spite of the design's lack of originality, looks like this will be a winner, if the forum members are representative of coin collectors as a whole! (And I think they are.) I will almost certainly get one of the circulation packs of this design when they become available.

I see the 2014 specimen set (and the dollar coin from it, separately, as well) listed on ebay, today, for pre-sale order. Obviously it's the Mint's own picture, but if it looks at all like the real thing, it's a nice coin and I will definitely be getting it.

Yup, most if not all of the latest release are on ebay already. There are even actual photos of some of the coins.

Quote: Good point. The 2012 is listed as proof and the 2014 as reverse proof...however, they look identical on the mint website so remains to be seen if the finish is actually different. They definitely do not look identical on the website. The different finish is apparent when flipping between the 2012 link and the 2014 page.

I don't think the coin will have trouble selling. People tend to become very patriotic when the Olympics roll around. Everything sells, and at $40 most people will shrug and say why not.
I just don't understand why they would reuse the design. Is 2014 the year of the replica? Cost cutting measures to ensure profits remain high?
