I have this 20 sen coin but I can't read Japanese so I don't know what date it is. Anybody able to help?
It's pretty gunky but other than the gunk the coin is in decent shape. I know that you're never supposed to clean a coin but is there a gentle way to just get gunk off?
TIA

1887.

Edit, fat fingered the date. I can even read Japanese so that was embarrassing. That's what I get for being in a hurry and trying to make a post before I go out the door.

Meiji 20, 1887.
I made a nice lookup table for "how to read Japanese dates" here on CCF a while back. Have to find it again.
