Limit of 5 per household, no sales "window" and no indication of production limits. I know where my $6,500 is going!
Seriously. Hmm. Is the gold Kennedy screaming "must have" in your collecting budget? Really on the fence with the gold coin. Might be a similar situation with last year's RP Buffalo, which didn't turn out to be that special after all. The RP is a neat coin but couldn't hold a candle to the regular proof, and spending $1,650.00 was not the best use of money in retrospect. In lieu of the Au half, I might perhaps get "almost" two proof spouses or a good start in paying for this year's Buffalo proof... Decisions, decisions... However, the silver and clad sets are must haves. Hope the differences between SMS clad halves and "circulation" quality clads are obvious.

Quote: Might be a similar situation with last year's RP Buffalo, which didn't turn out to be that special after all Wasn't the RP mintage 4 times that of the regular issue? Sure mintage does not dictate value but I bet anyone with a RP will want a standard issue to go with it in the future and we will see prices rise.

Mintage isn't everything, supply and demand is, based perceived popularity, desirability and scarcity. The RP Buffalo can be had today for close to issue price and the market is over saturated for an expensive non-circulating coin that will see little attrition over the next 20-30 years. If the gold Kennedy mintage is anything like the RP Buffalo (47,536) at the end of sales, that may be too much for a high-end coin even for a popular subject as JFK. I'll watch the pace of sales and see what collectors are saying about the gold the first couple of weeks.
Edit--The question I'm really asking myself is how badly do I want the gold half? Last year at this time I really wanted the RP Buff and got one within the first week of the ordering window. This year I'm not so sure.

Per the Mint: all Kennedy coins will be minted to demand with no set mintage limits.
The gold will start with 40k on hand for shipment and more will be minted if needed

That will be interesting. Do you know what's the mintage window (ie: 1 month, end of year, etc)?

No mention of date restrictions but I would think they will mint as many as they think there will be orders for ....at least until 12/31/14 (still can sell after that date though)

I don't plan to actually buy five sets this time around the way I did with the 2011 ASE set, but I am totally pumped about this and plan on buying one of everything (including the gold coin). I have always been a huge fan of the Kennedy half dollar and may be one of the few people around here who hopes they never retire it or change it significantly. The thought of seeing it as a Reverse Proof or in Gold just makes me giddy and week in the knees...

It is a nice label but the grading fee of $65/coin plus shipping both ways kills the deal for me...Let's see what PCGS comes up with

Bummed no limit, like 50k on Baseball gold..takes the air out of my desires, big time...since only 500 coins given away in Chicago,(at least Day 1), thus, probably 250 first people(2-coin limit, and, paid to stand in line by big dealers)..so..250 people get Chicago Label, and, THE most coveted coin to have..wonder if I could put my tent on entrance to Convention Center...TOMMOROW....will you guys bring me a porta-shower, porta pottie, and gallons of hot coffee? Will trade for 25% of profits!!! Side Note...Gold KHD to be disbursed at DENVER & PHILADELPHIA Salerooms, when they open 8-5...I'm sure special labels will be made for THOSE coins...

The NGC label is far superior, IMO.

I haven't seen a grading cost from PCGS yet....I do agree that their label is a tad lame beside the NGC also: Quote: 250 people get Chicago Label, and, THE most coveted coin to have. There will be 2500 gold available at the show...500/day If you believe it is "THE most coveted coin to have" and want THE coin then just order it online. There will be PLENTY available.
