No, this is the only vehicle to purchase these four specific items. So, if you want to build the short set you need to have purchased these specific items: the four coin special finishes set, the two coin uncirculated set, the gold coin and two regular issue coins: proof and unc.

The four coins in the set all have the original 1964 obverse. That makes them unique to this set. All other halves issued this year, silver or clad, are the current obverse.
Not sure why the TPGs cant attribute them outside of a sealed box. The only one even close would be the regular proof coin. But if a grader cant tell the difference between the regular silver proof and the 50th silver proof, they need to be fired.
Edit add on... And that coin is well worth every flipping penny over melt.

I knew you'd like it, smokerider. It's amazing all around. And I agree...I don't see why a TPG would grade a 50th silver proof Kennedy if it's not in the OGP. Maybe it's not eligible for various labels if that's the case. Dunno. Don't care.

Quote: Also, from the above description it sounds like the TPG will not be grading opened sets of this item. I don't know, but I'm confused again. There is no reason for the TPG's to need sealed Mint packaging. They will grade them like any other coin.

Quote: Actually 100% opposite... at least for NGC. I don't know who you are replying to.. my post above yours or the post 6 in front of mine but, as I said, no reason to submit on the original Mint packaging.

I never thought a modern issue could be my new favorite coin. I did something I have never done before. I spent money I did not have in hand. The design, the luster, the overall appearance is way beyond what pictures can do, and I am more than happy. I am working on a glass insulator collector reference book and wanted to treat myself for getting it done. Its not done yet... am hoping for the next couple months (hit some problems)... but the mint might not be making these JFKs when I do get the book out the door to the printer. So what could I do?

Earle you did the right thing. You would not have been able to live with yourself if you had missed this one.
And you are so right. There is no way to convey how nice this coin is with pics.

I keep telling myself this - I know I am not in the mainstream for this day and age, but its unnerving using a credit card without the cash behind it. When I start questioning it, it also helps a LOT to look at this coin

Earle - I don't think buying it right now vs. a month from now is a big difference. The population reports certainly show a large # available. I saw a dealer at yesterdays (small) show who had 10-15 of the baseball halves, but I only saw TWO of the 50c Gold Kennedys. But you will love it, it's just a stunner of a coin. But he was willing to sell the SP69 Early Release at the same price as raw. NGC shows 5,613 of all grades. And 5,063 are SP70 Early Releases. Right now the 'rarest' label is SP70 "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" (i.e. not attributed to a specific site. At 7. And 66 of the regular label SP70s. For label buffs, the absolute rarest (all at quantity 1) are the SP64 and SP65 HIGH RELIEF ANA INAUGURAL RELEASES SP66 HIGH RELIEF FIRST DAY - CHICAGO ANASP66, SP67 and SP68 HIGH RELIEF FIRST DAY - DENVER SP67 HIGH RELIEF EARLY RELEASES
