Because there is this pervading lunacy in the hobby of insisting that PCGS is infallible and if they slab itit is therefor worth more. Regardless of the fact that it is just as likely to be graded totally wrong as any other slabbed coin. But people keep drinking that Kool Aid and paying overblown prices because of the plastic, not the coin.

There is a perception that PCGS is strictest on grading, and that many times a coin would grade a point lower at PCGS than at NGC (ie. NGC 70 would cross over to PCGS 69).
Just remember, judge the coin, not the holder.

Basically the perceived value of the label. NGC=400, PCGS=2000

Great Post! Thanks for the info. Now it's got me wondering if the Kennedy's in the new 'Coin Discovery Set' that was just released will be any different then those already released?

The way I see it, if you take the 4 silver coin Kennedy half set, add the Enhanced PL and the DMPL, you've really just completed a 6 coin set! Of course then you would have to add the 1964-2014 Gold Kennedy and the other clad pieces, too.

Dar, no. Those will simply be the standard release coins shown. Nothing special.

I Just can't see the coin from PCGS merit that sort of price, matter of fact even NGC price is over inflated for the numbers of MS DPL-70 graded coins, over time I think it will drop in price like most modern commemorative coins. Please don't get me wrong I like the coins and have purchase the silver and gold to add to my collection, but modern commemorative is plenty to go around once dealers/spectators start to flood the market with it when no one willing to pay the price for high number DMPL or DPL Kennedy.
Yah! Strong Kool Aid alright. LOL!

Ok, so there will be nothing special about the coins themselves then? But, if you collect in all OGP then you might want one anyway.

Dar, not that one. I dont count that as OGP in the sense that the other coins are. This is a kit that happens to have coins in it.

Kennedy's ear on the circulation strikes looks very cartoon-ish when compared to the P&D anniversary set.

Thank you for this. I've got all 13 in a Dansco. This is a great reference.
