Quote: On the Mint's website, the 2014 schedule shows the set as TBD. Yes...but this is 2015 and it is NOT on the schedule

Quote: I just looked at my paper work and I received my 2013 set in April of 2014. And I received mine late March of 2014. I'm not going to leap to any conclusions here.

I received mine in 2014 also BUT the point is that it went ON SALE in 2013 No clue why they would put a 2014 set on sale in 2015...but that's JMHO

The Mint did release the 1993 Thomas Jefferson set in 1994. So it would not be the first time the Mint has had delayed releases, until the Mint announces that the set will not be available, there's still a chance. This is still a 2014 item and would not be in the 2015 schedule.

I had emailed the mint, asking about this set. Of course, since the fiasco and number of different explanations from the mint regarding the Coin & Currency set, I don't believe much of anything they say now. But here's the reply I got back regarding the LE Silver Proof set (this reply was received about 2 weeks ago)..."The 2014 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set is still slated to be released but determination of date and price have yet to be made. The only information we have at this point is that it will probably be pushed to the beginning of January." It was the beginning of January when I received the reply, and still no release. So, who knows.

The Mint has an out... they said the '... it will probably be pushed to the beginning of January." They didn't say January of 2015. :)

This may actually be my fault. I actually called the person who is responsible for those satisfaction surveys they send out. Had a long conversation with him about how horrible the 2013 packaging was. Blame me, but thank me when your 2014 set has a great package.

The 2014 LE Silver Proof Set is scheduled to go on sale 03/17/2015 according to the mint website. Still no price listed for it though.

Well that's new. It was TBD... Now that it is for sure going to be sold, who is buying? Why? I can't see any good reason to buy this set. I already have a silver proof set, and a proof ASE from 2014. If that is the case, why would anyone need this set? I think the "Premier" silver proof sets of the 1990s tell us that limited edition mint packaging, containing common coins, does not a valuable set make. Anyone disagree?

I agree with you Ratio411. Which is why I did not bought this set in 2012 & 2013.

I disagree hence buying the first two. Also why I have all the premier sets. The packaging DOES make a difference to some.

I'm going to buy, but unlike last year, I am not going to be getting extras. At first they were holding value, but now it looks like people are dumping their 2013 extras at a loss.

Oh, I'm sure the packaging is nice to some. If I kept my modern coins in OGP, then I too would appreciate nicer packaging. My point was that "different", because this arguably isn't even "nicer", packaging is not sought after to the point that it adds value. I guess if someone just wants "different", but the market is not big enough to add value, or (in our lifetime) make something more sought after. Make sense? Buy the coin, not the package.

Actually it IS more sought after. I had two sets of the Premier sets. Notice I said "had". I sold the other set off at retail value. No, it does not sell the moment it is put up. But there ARE people who see a value in it, and do buy them. As is the case for the LE sets.
For you, clearly there is no attraction. And thats fine. But simply because you do not see a value in it, does not mean others do not. Now, I am not saying these things are going to soar in price. I am not an idiot. But there IS value there.

Initially, I criticized the 2012 LESPS for not having any unique coins, but the early sellout of the regular 2012 Silver Proof Set gave the 2012 LESPS a purpose. Namely, the 2012 Silver Proof Dime and JFK Half, both under 500k mintage.
I do hope they improve the packaging for the 2014 LESPS....
