I just received the printed catalog in the mail and I decided to browse through it before throwing in the recycle bin. No doubt there are really nice designs and many coins caught my attention - like the Battle of Neuve-Chapelle, George V reverse $20 with selective gold plating. The $20 Transcontinental Railroad is another one I would consider. But here's my problem: Back in 2011 when silver was hovering at $35/oz, with a $45+ peak, the Fine Silver $20 D-10 coin cost $80. Today, I'd be paying $90 for $17/oz metal content. I get the cost of living and the Canadian dollar depreciation but shouldn't the RCM coins come down in price a bit?

@canadian_coins. I agree with you. Coin prices should be dropping. That's one of the reasons I haven't been buying. Plus not to exciting product choices at the moment.

I understand that everything (coins included) is personal choice and inrerest, but the above two are conflicting... You probably need it to complete the set, but unlike some of recent RCM coins (as example : "Nickel Tribute", WWI / WWII coins, Masks maybe) the Glass series are just colourized coins with small glass glued piece.

@Silveroid Yup you guessed it! Need glass turtle to complete set. Not sure when turtle is being released. I was referring to the RCM March release with my comment about coins not being very exciting. I guess I'm just bored with RCM releases. Waiting patiently for another hot new coin!

The Mint updated the stock photos of most coins in this release, and changed to use actual photos... and OMG aren't the print on the colour coins ugly!? Dithering is very obvious, and the cardinal and the duck both look sick (literally). On the bright side the 1/2KG Cougar looks awesome.

Added: The Glass coins (according to previous releases) heppened in April. The 1/2 kg Cougar (as same series Wolf) : Basically just great design.

Thanks Silveroid for letting me know about possible April release for glass coins. After reading comments posted on this forum, I question why I buy anything direct from RCM. It seems most of this stuff can usually be purchased at a discounted price.

Something about the new $20x$20 ? At the $25 Canadian flag subscription it's indicated the 2nd coin of the series (first $20x$20 of 2015) will be released and unveiled on March.

Quote: I will pass, I just cant get into 3rd party modifications done to bullion coins. Plus $299 for non proof bullion that "sparkle" no thanks.
Was thinking the same thing Northerncoins, 4 ounces of bullion for $100 would be OK but not $300. Four jewels are the four coin finishes of the seasons. Nice to look at but not $200 worth of modifications. To each his or her own.

Replying (in general) to :Canadian Coins", "discovery", et al... 1. I collect [for investment] (I cannot afford just to 'collect', i.e. I need to be able to liquidate if necessary because I have a low budget). Common coins are not very saleable. SO I DO NOT COLLECT SETS, I only look for 'keys' (that I can afford). 2. Further, with a few exceptions, I try to focus on coins that have a substantial bullion value vs. my cost, coins that are attractive and coins that are scarce. Some examples: 2011 50c gold nature series, 2013 $5 niobium fishing father, etc. I think the RCM is setting itself up for a crash - this is typical for businesses driven by sales because collectors/buyers are being herded into a corner and will eventually loose interest. The RCM now puts out such a fusillade of products collectors can no longer keep up and will simply loose interest. I'm old. It's happened in the past. It may already be time to cut our losses. The only thing that would save the situation is if the prices of gold & silver suddenly rise sunstantially. 3. I seldom buy from the RCM because I can usually buy off ebay from some poor RCM devotee that is getting nervous about recovering his investment. In this way I can focus on what I think is most promising and avoid the expense of trying to have it all. Sorry for such a poor viewpoint but that's the way I see it. P.S. Beware: Buying off ebay has its own worries.
