I don't know about the new 7001's but the older ones have vinyl pages that are loaded with PVC.
Just to be safe, I place my notes in PVC-free currency sleeves before placing the notes in the album pages.
I feel safer that way.

I would expect a company like Dansco to not use plasticizers in their products but I suppose it can't hurt to double bag.

A long time ago it seemed like everyone used plasticized PVC. My first Dansco 7000 had what I believe were PVC pages. They were greasy and they smelled like a swimming pool. I should add that this album was probably already quite old when I got it more than twenty-five years ago. My second 7000 looked newer. The binder was sharper. The pages were a stiffer and less odorous. I eventually bought replacement pages for the first 7000 (at the time I was buying my third 7000). I guess the takeaway here it to be aware of older albums that may have been lurking on the shelves for years.

Good advice, jbuck.
Anyone know of a way to tell if something is plasticized? I'm not even sure I'd want to put an archival-quality currency sleeve in a page that's known to have plasticizers in it.
Seems like GR58 doesn't have any issues with his 7001's and I'm ordering my 7001 new, so I don't have many worries about it, but it pays to be safe.

Quote: The best tell is the smell. The next best tell is the slick greasy feel. But isn't that for plastics that are already breaking down or leaching out the plasticizers (i.e., they've been around for a while)? I'd definitely avoid gooey pages right off the bat.

In my experience even brand new PVC vinyl has that smell and that greasy feel. It is not actually wet, it just feels wet.
Ultimately, the safest course of action is to purchase from a manufacturer that explicitly states their product does not contain plasticized PVC. If it is a case where they once used PVC and later abandoned it, perhaps it can be confirmed with a product code or some other indicator on the item.

Thanks again, jbuck. I guess it's one of those "if it looks like a duck..." things.
I'm about to pull the trigger on a 7001 and buy a pile of OEM spare pages for it. I very much suspect they will be plasticizer-free like the pages and top loaders I use for baseball cards. I've collected baseball cards for 25 years and the pages I use for those look the same as the day I bought them.
I wish I could say the same for my ugly mug... *grumble*

Finally bought my 7001, should be here by Wednesday. I may or may not take a picture of the empty album for y'all. @GR58 - what did you use for the non-currency pages that you put your spreadsheet printouts in? Got a link for me? I'll continue to search.
