You bought more than one copy?!

I actually had to demote some books to get this big guy to fit in the bookcase. Half Price Books, here I come.

The only solution to having too many books is to add more book shelves.

That is the spirit!

My son moved into the (larger) guest room last year. My wife is the book nerd so she turned his old one into a reading room. One entire wall now has built-in shelves with room to grow.

That's awesome, the house I grew up in had built in shelves and desks in each of 4 bedrooms, except the master bedroom (parent's room, 5 bedroom house), my sister and I each had 2 rooms apiece, man I miss having storage like that, plus almost 2000 square feet of unfinished basement which I put up shelving on the walls using 10 foot long planks and cinder blocks. We had more than 5000 square feet, 2800+ square feet finished out. Now I'm relegated to a 10x12 indoor storage unit to house many of my books at the moment.

I do have about 300 books I regularly use all the time in my room at the house though.

OH GREAT. Went to a coin show today where a dealer always has lots of books. He is the one I usually get my Red Books from. Asked him about that new super Red Book. He said he just can't get enough of them. He said he orders 100 each time and at each coin show they all get sold. His price is $40 each. I asked if and when he will be getting more and he told me hopefully in a few Months he will be getting another 100 so I'll just wait. Looks like one of the best prices and no postage, handling, etc.

Have you read the new ad from Whitman Publishing in the latest E-Sylum Newsletter that went out late Sunday evening? (May 10, 2015) HILLARIOUS!

THE BOOK BAZARRE
MEGA RED IS HERE. A farmer in Ohio is rumored to have protected his herd of ostrich from a rampaging grizzly bear wielding only a copy of the 1,504-page Deluxe Edition Red Book. (The farmer was wielding the book, not the bear.) Order your copy for $49.95 at Whitman.com or call 800-546-2995.

Lord wish I had read this thread before I ordered the MONSTER from Wizard. I've enjoyed the spiral bound professional and large format editions of the RB so I thought the deluxe edition would be more of the same. LOL. The book needs it own zip code.

Very smart marketing and product idea by RedBook. I admit I had never planned on getting another one b/c the prices are so ridiculous inside, and this was primarily what I would have wanted one for. But its a lot cheaper to get the info - and much more accurate - online nowadays. So this new edition with all the added info, the in-hand (rather than onscreen) photo grading et cetera - smart move.

My wife almost threw her back out lifting up the box from the front porch.

Agreed. I think everyone regards (or should regard) those prices as "ballpark" or relative and rely on other sources to determine market value. I pretty much use the Red Book exclusively for details, mintage numbers, coin facts, etc., so having more of that is a big plus.

And one more reason to go to coin shows. At a coin show today a dealer had some of those massive new Red Books. I told him at another show they were $40 so he gave it to me for $39. Just had to have it for my Red Book collection.
Now if your planning on getting one, here is some of the statistics: 10" High x 7" Wide and 2 1/2" deep. And yes very heavy. Cover states 1st Edition so I guess that means more coming in the future. Last page says page 1503 so I guess the adds that say 1504 include the last page. One nice thing is the top of all pages are color coded so you can find each type of coin by that.
It is impressive but I suspect it will sit in my bookcase looking new for a long time.
