I don't know much about those books but I know if I had them I'd spend a day just looking through them before I ever got around to any serious reading.

Enjoy!

Nice pick ups! I have 4 of those, don't have any of the half dollar books in my library yet nor the Federal Half Dimes book.

Very interesting group of books.

I am very curious how you will like the

Guide to attributing Bust Half dollars

The Fifth edition of that book is on my list for the
next order at Wizard coin supply.

If you get a chance I would like to hear your impression
of that book.

Did William C. Noyes written a book on late date large cents or is John R. Grellman, Jr the best that's available?

The Federal Half Dimes book is good as the Early dimes book. Compared to the Half Dimes written By Daniel W. Valentine(That covers all Half Dimes) it is a night and day difference.

The Fifth Edition is a must with clear descriptions and fairly good pictures for attributing. I also use the NGC variety Plus(on the internet)for further assistance. Now with the addition of The Ultimate Guide To Attributing Bust Half Dollars By Glenn R. Peterson, M.D.(not a stand alone book) will help tremendously.

If I could I would but I'm horrible at writing. We have some truly gifted writers on this forum and maybe they can start a Post on book reviews. This will help others when buying the best books for their coin related needs.

I was wrong about the books. The one I was thinking about
is

I think I may have a version of the book the OP just purchased.

So now, I am not sure if the one from Wizard (link I posted)
is any better than the one I have.

Yes, Noyes has volumes on the later dates now available but expensive. I only have the Grellman/Reiver edition, Grellman updated it and dropped Reiver from the credit. I have not upgraded my copy yet, so I can't say what changed.

The Noyes books are distributed through Charles Davis Numismatic Books, look for used copies at book auctions as they are expensive, a full set of all his books (8 volumes now) would run $1500+ new.

Noyes better than Grellman? Not sure as I said I haven't got the latest Grellman edition, but the Noyes books are superb for photography and quality of printing.

Just a small section of some of my favorite and most often referenced early copper coin books and catalogs...

I'm missing the latest Noyes volumes 3 & 4 which I need to get soon, probably next year after holiday expenses are covered. They run $235.00. https://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/ch...Default.aspx

If I could only have one book, I will buy the Fifth Edition of the Overton. In having The Ultimate Guide To Attributing book, it made attributing bust half very quick and simple.

So I'm guessing the books I want are the 5&6.
Thanks again and boy do you have a great collection of books.

Yes 5&6 are the Noyes late date books you want for the late date series.

Thanks for your comments, that is only a very small part of my library which is now well over 2000 books, magazine and catalogs. My absolute most favorites are, in no particular order:
"Out on a Limb" by the Money Tree, Myron Xenos and Ken Lowe.
"Rare Coin Review" by Bowers & Ruddy/Merena.
"Numismatic Scrapbook" by Hewitt Publishing 1935-1975.
"Asylum" Numismatic Bibliomania Society newsletters set.
"The Walter J. Husak catalog" by Heritage Auctions.
"Dan Holmes catalogs" by Goldberg's in 4 volumes.
" Half Cent Die State" book by Manley.
"Numismatic Companion" book series (Rare Coin Review article Reprints), "History of U.S. Coins as Illustrated by the Garrett Collection," and "Adventures with Rare Coins," by Q. David Bowers.

There are so many great books/catalogs out there, one of the tougher ones I'm now trying to complete is John Jay Pittman & New Netherlands Coin Company's "Numisma" newsletters.

One can never have enough reference books in the coin hobby!

A book is worth so much to me in reading cover to cover and then as a very useful reference.
I buy good quality polythene to cover them & you have somewhere to rest your glass of red.
