Quote: Look at the profit you did make though Kairu. You never know what the future will bring. You still made a good decision to sell when you did. I think in ten years, we will all be kicking ourselves for letting these go for under $500 each.

Yeah I am still happy with what I did no doubt about that. We didn't have the money to have it tied up for too long so doubling my investment was still well worth it. Got burned on this year's WTE's so happy this could make up for that.

Finally got around to opening my sets. These were ordered after they sold out, then were reopened for about an hour 1week (2 weeks?) later. I just wonder if anyone at the mint looks at these before they ship. This one has a hole, not unlike the one posted here that has the rim problem (I am guessing).

So, what do you think I should do with the coin above (large pinhole? small divot?).
Can't exchange it (I am sure someone sent this back, then the mint collected a bunch of returns and opened sales again) Slab it for the fun? Sell it? Hold it?
And what do you think caused the problem?

Emu, I had a couple of sets that also had those little spots/holes in them. I just sold them even if the one I am keeping still has a spot, it is only that tiny one and I am dealing with it. I don't need a perfect coin as I still made money on sets and am keeping a very rare coin in my collection. Being perfect isn't too big a thing since it is a lot better looking than most of my other coins :)

In my opinion, this could still grade 69. So, it may be worth to send in for grading if you plan on selling. Selling it right now (with a fair description) probably wouldn't yield the best results. So I would either get it graded or hang onto it for a while. On another note, I was able to help my uncle snag 3 of these sets this morning from the mint.

Corey, please post the condition of your uncles sets when they arrive, I am curious to know if they all have problems (as in, are they returns).

Buymyemu, I don't think they will be returns. I can't imagine many of these sets would be returned as even ones in poor condition are selling for a profit. Plus 17 days seems like an awfully quick turnaround time for sets to be shipped, returned, handled, and sold again. But, there is that possibility, hopefully not though.
I will be sure to let you know of their condition.

Quote: A reduction in the household order limit to 2 has been announced by the U.S. Mint for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Coin and Chronicles set when it goes on sale Aug. 11
Mint limit for Ike is an identical 17,000. Price is $57.95 each.
The set will be sold only on the Mint website. It will not be offered at the U.S. Mint booth at the American Numismatic Association's World's Fair of Money in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont. http://www.numismaticnews.net/artic...t-drops-to-2Will these still be available after 10 hours of launch ?

Yes, the law of averages combined with ignorance, stupidity or just plain anger will cause SOME returns. You can count on that. Will it be 5 or 100+ returns cannot be measured but there will be returns. Are these offering returns or part of the 120 that weren't released on opening day we don't know but it does seem like it's too soon for returns to be resold. That said, with them opening up small offerings almost daily it is quite confusing as to what they're up to.
One of my RP'S from the next day offering has a huge scarface scratch & reverse feild "dings". Personally I think the mints QC guy had the flu or was fired just prior to this production run. Or better yet they just didn't care! But I like the lack of QC personally as it just adds to the gambling flavor of this experience and the future of the high grade examples. I just hope my other 4 will be 69/70 but again, there in lies more excitement & anticipation!
