I bet it's just an inadvertent omission by the Mint. Sometimes they are a bit clueless with what they are selling...
It will definitely add a bit of drama to the rest of the year....but...I can't think of any product that would include this coin and not the Truman....and...if the produced an RP set of $1's there would be a wee bit of an uproar...
Stay tuned....

This kinda reminds me of Coca-Cola execs during the 80s with the "new coke" debacle and subsequent sales spike with "classic coke"... What was that statement cokes then president made, something to the effect of "We're not that dumb, & we're not that smart"

The mint stated prior to the release of the Coin & Chronicles sets - that the only place you would find the RP was in these sets this year. That could have changed, but the backlash against the mint would be pretty harsh considering some the of things they've gotten hammered over in the past. The 2012 ASE has still got to be fresh in someone's mind over there.

Have you opened it to make sure it's not packaging lint?... IF it is not a scratch or lint but an actual strikethrough it's a definate keeper. IF it's a scratch it's STILL a keeper because there is NO exchange, just a refund of original price when you can sell it on eba for much more than what you paid right now

Hey everybody, since the deadline for grading early release is coming up, I thought I'd get your advice on submitting.
Coin 1: No visible flaws that I noticed, best chance at 70.
Coin 2: Scratch across forehead, no other issues noticed.
Coin 3: 2 very small black dots on reverse
Coin 4: 3 very small black dots on reverse and what looks like a light smear spot
Coin 5: 1 very small black dot on reverse, some incredibly light haze on edge
Would you submit these coins for grading knowing that some have obvious issues? In your opinion, would any of these grade below 69 typically? None have major issues in my opinion, but all of the ones with issues can be seen without magnification, although it isn't very distracting from the overall appeal of the coin. Sorry I don't have pictures, I tried to take some but the camera I had had a hard time focusing.

Tough call....PF69's are selling at only a small markup over the raw sets so those will probably do fine raw...the one maybe 70 should be submitted ...but...you are 4 coins short of a submission...
Is is worth over $100 for a chance at a 70? If you get one yes...but if you do not it will be a $20 coin chance that didn't pan out but probably will be a wash in the long run
Don't worry about 68's....you can always crack 'em out and make them into raw sets if needed

Holy Crap Batman! Saturday an NGC RP70 went for around $1400 and I mentioned the three for sale by MCM every other day...and I said the price would probably drop... . THAT was a perfect call #1 sold last night for $1702 and #2 and #3 are $1327 and $1275 with plenty of time to go... Impressive so far...

I'm not a grader, but I would not grade it 70 if I was - simply because the strike is not well centered.

Quote:I saw the part about the Jefferson nickel being "first issued" during his administration (page 15 of the info brochure) and had to think about it for a couple of minutes. I then reread the part on page 14 and it became clear what they were referring to. The statement on page 14 refers to "Select Congressional actions and laws enacted under Truman..." with one of those "laws or actions" that returned the alloy from the Wartime silver composition (1942-1945) to the former pre-war nickel/copper composition of 1938. The statement is confusing if you don't take pages 14 and 15 collectively. It could have been written better, however. I saw the part on page 14, but did not make the connection. I think it was because my brain locked in on the exact wording on page 15, which is clearly misleading. Thank you for joining me in this small diversion.

I sent 11 in...6 I think are fine...3 are maybe's...2 were sent for a reason I can't presently recall Edited to add: oops...I just checked my submission and I apparently sent in 13 $1's...so 2 aliens worked their way in there somehow

Brought the two sets that I saved to a show this weekend and showed them to a few people. Consensus was that one stood a pretty good chance of grading 70. Went to the PCGS website and apparently I need a yearly membership to submit it. Is there any other way to do it without signing up for a membership?
