New update on JFK Chronicles set sales:
48,012 sets sold as of midnight, Sept. 21
Sounds like the Mint is seeing plenty of returns.

Got my first two today. Both of the silver medals look great. One of the dollar coins has some dark, foreign substance/gunk right in the middle of the hair, though. How did such a thing get there:( On the other, there is this light orangish-colored swirl/streak in the obverse field (it almost looks like the coin maybe didn't completely rinse off properly, if they even do that to this kind of coin-I wonder how many have experienced this kind of slight discoloration on Presidential dollar coins before?-I know that more severe 'spotting' happens on ASE's). One of the 'slide cases' has a slit mark (like from a razor blade) or something that runs two-thirds the length of the back of it (right through the mintage information). Again, I admit puzzlement as to how such a thing happens? There are two stained spots on one of the booklets. Bottom line, I have one 'keepable' set (I'm OK with keeping the coin with the minor discoloration (still a nice looking coin to me). That said, I wish the US Mint would improve its quality control! I know that with it being a monopoly, that will probably never happen, though:(

Quote:So noone noticed the doubling ot Die Deterioration on the kennedy metal? To me, on the E, it doesn't look like doubling. It looks like die chips like you'd see on a large cent.

Well that's certainly doubling. I'll see if I can get a good pic of the die chips on mine.

I noticed the doubling in kennedy, too. It's the same as daviscfad's coin.

I'm not sure either. I'm not good at double dies. You would probably get some good opinions in you made a topic in the U.S Modern Variety & Error coins forum.

Mine have a circular shiny spot right above the 1. My one coin has a cracked case and weird gunk on the coins rim. The medal in that set has two spots on the reverse. I don't know if I'll return because I actually want this set for my collection.
