Anything 2003A or older I put aside for another look due to their age.

Any star notes, I keep unless they're a high print run and/or beat up.

Anything pre-1995 is an automatic keeper, even if I have duplicates.

As far as $1's are concerned, I only save silver certificates (and I've only ever found exactly two), so I got nothin.

I save UNC pre-1999 notes (got a 100 strap of them in my drawer at the bank), WEB notes (found three), 1963s no matter what condition (I have found 2 63's, 1 63A, and 3 63Bs) and then silver certificates.

Really!?... For years now, even before coin collecting, I have carried a $100 bill folded in a pocket in my wallet as a super emergency reserve. It's a 1981 (my birth year) which keeps it right where it is. I have found that I don't want to spend it even if I'm really tempted to do so it stays where it is unless I absolutely NEED it. I suggest this birthyear $100 emergency reserve wallet stash method to anyone who is the "always be prepared" boyscout type

And it's come in handy. A few times I've been to auctions where they need a $100 cash deposit and I was planning on using a card so I tell them I want that specific bill back and it's no problem

Agree with all the above... stars, pre-2003A, silver certs, webs, low/fancy SNs, and... errors (don't think that was mentioned yet)!

Why are people hanging onto regular pre 2003A bills?

For me, it's anything pre-2006. They're just old and above average for the amount of time a dollar bill lasts.

I only hang onto them if they're UNC or AU. As the note gets older I become more forgiving.
