I will let you know if the C&C set's SAE capsule fits into the OGP box.

I thought sales first day would be around 20 K......

U.S. Mint announced that first-day sales of the Ronald Reagan Coin and Chronicles Set totaled 21,511 units. They still have a lot of product to move here, going to be around for awhile.

That's funny. By offering more, they sell less. Hopefully they have not minted all of the sets. It would be awesome if they cut the production short.

Mine says Monday, which is normal. I have received things on Saturday as long as my carrier is on the late route.

That would be very nice! I'm not sure how that's handled with all the packaging though... do they produce/order all the OGP up front or in batches? I.e., would they have to trash 100k pieces of OGP if only 50k sets are ultimately ordered?

They for sure do batches, but as to whether or not they order everything at once, I do not know. If they don't believe they're going to sell all they have by the end of the year, I think it would not be a smart move to make more. Of course, we're talking about the government here, so that sort of logic generally goes out the window.

I for one hope that there are plenty to go around. The mint is not supposed to be, and IMHO should not be, in the business of producing rarities. I don't know what they were thinking with this year's silver medals (and the gold dime), maybe it was some sort of a test (but that might be giving them too much credit). Every time there is a rapid sellout, lots of people are disappointed or end up having to pay ridiculous prices to get something they really want. When they want to make tightly limited runs, they should do some real market research and then set the mintage and HH limits accordingly. I remember on the 2011 ASE set they were actively checking CC names and numbers and shipping addresses to make sure that no one got more than 5 sets (should have been 2). I am like anybody else, I like it when the value of something I purchase goes up, but I don't think that the mint should manipulate the marketplace with very limited runs that sell out on the first day. There are plenty of examples of modern coins that have done well without ever reaching their mintage limits (and plenty of ones that tanked), but that is as it should be. END RANT.

One of the topics at yesterday's forum were household limits and mintage limits. I think the advice the community presented to the mint would to have an advisory committee made up of representatives of the hobby to have some input on these figures. I don't know if this will be implemented or not, but I thought it was a good suggestion.
