Quote: There is a reported 11 dollar price increase for this offering. I wonder why it is so high... Your source? There's no price listed on the Mint's upcoming product page. Last year's sets were $57.95 so if true that would be $68.95 per set. Maybe sets will include a chunk of the Berlin wall.

Or many that Bronze medal? Or maybe both RP and PR dollars?

From Coin News: Quote: Lastly, the U.S. Mint will release the 2016 Ronald Reagan Coin & Chronicles Set on Oct. 11 for $68.95. There's no news yet about what it'll include. Previous sets have had stamps, silver medals and exclusive reverse proof $1 coins featuring the honored president. Last year's sets were $57.95 apiece

Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to details. Certainly it would be nice to have both the proof and a bronze medal (along with the RP and a silver medal à la last year's sets) but that might be asking just too darn much for $11. So it's probably one or the other. Hopefully not just higher cost for a similar product.

I read speculation that it will be a Silver Eagle. It was apparently listed in a list of price increase silver eagle products. I haven't seen the list to confirm but it seems reasonable.

The silver medal uses an ASE blank, so it could be related some way. Not looking good for those of us who want a value add for that $11.

Reading a couple other articles, there is good reason to speculate that there will be a 30th Anniversary ASE in the set, as the ASE was introduced in Reagan's 2nd term. While concerns are valid that it wouldn't likely add any numismatic pieces to the set, it's not a bad option PARTICULARLY if there's a special finish to it.... *ahem*

Adding an ASE would be more than $11, unless you are saying it will be instead of the medal. But I want the medal!

Yes, in this scenario, the ASE would be instead of the medal, which could explain the $11 delta.

I just had a thought... Would I be happy with the ASE and a bronze Reagan medal.

Celtic, you mean the ASE with edge lettering that they will release and NOT the ASE medal that just released right? If this is the case then here's another point to consideration: TPG "SET" label rarity. Those ASE in the set being graded MS/PF 70 WILL command a significant premium, considering the trend/market for ' TPG label collecting'. The Mint sure know how to add another spin to this modern coin market AND TPG / Dealers will take full advantage of this.

From another site: "The Ronald Reagan Coin & Chronicles set goes on sale Oct. 11 and will contain a Reverse Proof 2016-S Ronald Reagan Presidential dollar struck at the San Francisco Mint; a 1.5-inch bronze Ronald and Nancy Reagan medal; a booklet including images from President Reagan's life and presidency; an authentic engraved Ronald Reagan Presidential portrait produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing; and a Proof 2016-W American Eagle 30th Anniversary silver dollar. President Reagan signed into law the 1985 legislation, Title II of Public Law 99-61, Liberty Coin Act, approved July 9, 1985, authorizing the American Eagle series.)"
