Well, it so happens that my 2-year-old swiped the 1942-S War Nickel off my desk this afternoon when I wasn't looking, and I haven't seen it since, and it wasn't for lack of trying. Hopefully it's still in the house somewhere. 'Tis the risk you take ... by having kids ... Cheers!

I had my first Nickel roll hunt in 8 years today. I bought $40 in customer-wrapped and $60 in bank-wrapped rolls. The results: 7 Canadian Nickels and one 1930 Buffalo nickel. This is the nicest Buffalo nickel I've been able to pull from circulation; the horn is intact.

Nice Buffalo! Seems we're enjoying a collective buff streak. Today we got a mix of CWR and MWR from the branch I visited on Friday. Different teller but the CWR were off the hook - my 7-year-old daughter opened a roll that had THREE War Nickels including a 43 D and a slicked out dateless Buffalo! The war nicks gave us one coin from each mint.STILL no 44 D but with 21 pre 1960s and a 2009 P out of 28 rolls, no complaints.

Do you nic-a-date coins or not? I probably would not do that one as it's a Philadelphia mint issue but if it were a Denver or a San Francisco curiosity would definitely get the better of me.

This brings up an important point - visit as many different tellers in a branch as you can as you never know when one has something really good (usually in CWR)... that '43-D is a really tough pull, so that's a nice bonus... for the Buffalo, dump it in vinegar for a few days - the date should show up.
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

This morning, I looked in the trunk of my car and discovered I forgot to open two mint-wrapped rolls. Lucky for me, one of them contained a 1945-P.
