I've been having really bad luck with nickels lately, but I just found THREE War Nickels in a SINGLE customer roll today: 1942-P, 1943-P, and 1943-S. They're all pretty slick, but that definitely made up for the previous fruitless searches. To top it off, the 1942-P was an album filler. So now I only have the following holes to fill. Interesting that they're all Denver mints, given that's the closest mint to where I am. Cheers!

Congrats on silver!

Did you know that the War Nickels have the highest amount of silver relative to their face value? A dollar's worth contains well over an ounce of silver, compared to .715 ounces for 90% coins.

It's been forever since I posted on here... 53+ hour workweeks have very much limited my free time and ability to CRH.

Today, I went to one of my dump banks in a nearby city on my lunch hour and then across the parking lot to one of my buy banks. Bought $50 of marked nickels - they had two horizontal lines resembling an "11" on them - I almost told the teller to keep them as I was pretty sure they had been searched. A few rolls in, it became obvious to me they had been as EVERY coin dated prior to 1990 had been pulled and there was nothing later than 2013 in any of the rolls. Several rolls in, I pulled an AU 2009-D... and then another, and then another... and it kept going until I had found SEVEN of them (all of them in AU or better) - the most I have ever found in a $50 group! Needless to say, I was quite happy I didn't refuse those rolls!

Excellent!

The previous searcher evidently did not realize their value.

Re: the Canadian nickel, the P means it is plated, Canada started experimenting with plated coins in 1999 (nickel plated steel blanks).
Most Canadian coins (minted in Canada) will have no mint mark, some the RCM logo and some with a W, indicating the Winnipeg mint.

I was banking on that when I took the rolls. Based on my previous experiences with marked/searched through rolls, my guestimate is about 75-80% of CRH don't know of their value. Finding one 2009-D every 3 1/2 rolls or so was pretty crazy as my find rate on them is typically about 1 per 900 coins (still far better than most of the rest of the country where 1 per 2 boxes is pretty typical).

From my CRH experiences over the past eight years, I can confidently state that 2009-D nickels were quite well distributed in all of Southern California and Las Vegas, NV... as for other parts of the country, I'm interested to hear about people's find rates in places like San Francisco, Phoenix, Denver, Portland, Seattle, Boise, SLC, and points slightly east... I'm quite curious as to where the mass distribution of them ended geographically.

Found another War Nickel yesterday, a 1943-P, in a customer roll from the same branch. That makes for a total of 4 War Nickels! Gonna see if I can get more rolls from that branch tomorrow.

Agreed that it has the highest ratio; however, War Nickels have a lower premium than the 90% coins, because of the lower silver content. To refiners especially, it adds more costs to extract out the pure silver. To me, however, I actually like the War Nickels, because of the history and because they were made for only a few years, after which the government tried to take them back. So I'm not sure how many are still in existence, but the number is not small, despite all that. Regardless, I like them.

Cheers!

Went to my normal buy bank by work today on my lunch and purchased $58 in nickels. Amongst the 7 CWR was one of the 6 toughest-to-find Jeffersons a 1939-S along with a semi-key 1948-S and a 1936 Buffalo... believe it or not, the 22 MWR produced that same 1939-S coin that the CWR did along with another of the 6 toughest-to-find Jeffersons - a 1943-D (a coin I didn't find at all in 2023), along with what looks to be an impaired proof 1957 and an Uncirculated 1959 coin.

In total, the rolls produced a robust 19 pre 60-s and a single 2009-D coin.

The-Goal:-25,000-Rolls-Of-Nickels-All-Searchers-Welcome!

Previous visit to that same branch on Wednesday (24 MWR, 1 CWR) brought me a 1942-S, and an Unc 1958-P amongst 17 pre-60s, along with a well-worn 2009-P and a single 2009-D.
