This is my first real DDO found and I'm soooo excited, but is there any way to clean it so it would actually have some value? I know the pics are horrible, but zoomed in the 3 is definitely DD and I'm pretty sure the MM is too.
Your coin is a regular cent. The mint mark has a split plating issue. But if it were a RPM, that would be the designation, not a doubled die. If you are looking at the tops of the 'T's on TRUST, that is also a split plating issue. (damaged during the strike from too much pressure) I don't see a doubled die on your coin. But the issue with the stain on the plating is not fixable. If the coin were a variety ( DDO / DDR/RPM) I would still leave it alone. Sometimes coins get cleaned and that ruins the collectable premium for these.
Best to leave them alone until you know what you are doing. Unless you see something I missed?
Erinbgibert, you should also weigh all 1983 cent coins. This was a transitional year to the copper plated zinc core cents weight 2.5 grams. There are some solid copper alloy cents weight 3.1 grams. This is the one we all want.
