Overall 8"x6"x6". Inside 7"x5"x3". They had bigger ones, but I liked this size.

Sounds like a nice size box ....
I am sure it will feel good, once it is full of silver

I have two treasure chests, one is foreign silver coins, the other is Mexican silver. Lots of fun trying to fill them, and looking through them now and then, as well.

Started filling treasure chest #2... Decided to include all 90% "junk" silver American coins for a little variety...

Quote:Well, got a start on my son's treasure chest. Built the box, gotta get some hinges and a latch, and stain it... Planning to fill it with ASE's... I tried making a box like that once, nearly killed myself making a 45 cut (darn kickback), now I just stick to making large book cases on a shop bot

Thanks guys!
I don't like using the term "junk silver", but we all understand what that means... They're not trash, they just have issues that negate their numismatic value...
Will take a while to fill, but that's part of the fun for me!!

Don't jump down my throat, I don't know the melting point of silver and gold, but anything I take possession of goes in a fire safe (theft and or fire). Any thoughts on whether fire damage is overkill as far as protection is concerned?
Also, it looks like a treasure chest it just has a plastic feel to it and a lock.

Puglife711 - Fire safes generally aren't very good for collectable coins since during a fire since they release water on the contents and could damage coins even in normal storage outside of a fire.

Someone asked me to post the weight when the box gets full. It is really close to being full, and I started a spread sheet this week. On my human scale 12.5 lbs So far spreadsheet shows 131.3994oz. actual silver weight (ASW) I still have 19 coins to look up - 4.51oz actual weight This week I put 10 proof ASE's, because I got a deal and bought them just above melt. So I am thinking of them as silver. Here is what the box looks like now. At this point I really need to find a bigger box.
