This is of a different style issued from the Rajod mint. Only VS. 1930 date is known for this variety so far. But date is not visible on this coin. VS.1930 will correspond to AD.1873, when Jayaji Rao was ruling. I am sorry to find that I have posted two images repeatedly in the beginning part of Gwaliar. Coin ID, PS/031/001 and PS/031/004 are repeatedly posted. I noticed it only after the editing window was closed. Admin may please remove the repetitions. Thanks.

@drnsreedhar, thanks again for posting this wealth of information. I have seen coins from Gwaliar come up occasionally looking for identification over in that part of CCF.
My question for you relates to that last coin--the one from 1873 AD. What is the animal depicted on the obv? Monkey? Zombie squirrel with mohawk? The image is pretty rough, but I'm sure that there must be a good story behind that design.

The figure is that of the monkey God called "Hanuman". In some other varieties of Rajod mint, the figure is better seen. You can find Hanuman on Panna state coins and still earlier on coins of the Vijayanagara empire also. The figure is better struck on the Vijayanagar issues.
Hanuman comes live in Indian myths in the epoch of "Lord Sree Rama", the legendary King of "Ayodhya". SreeRama is considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the God for sustenance. (There is a concept of Holy Trinity in Hindu mythology. Lord "Brahma" is for creation, "Vishnu" for sustenance and "Shiva" for destruction. This symbolises birth, life and death respectively). Sree Rama's life history is called as "Ramayana". Print copy of Ramayana is considered as a Holy book by the Hindus and is handled with high reverence at their residences. It is read at homes on all special occasions. Hanuman is said to be a son of wind (Maruta) and so is also called "Maruti". He was extremely loyal to Lord "SreeRama". He was very powerful and so dedicated to his lord that he was chosen to go in search of "Sita Devi" (wife of SreeRama) to Lanka (Sree Lanka) when she was abducted by the Lankan King "Ravana". Hanuman found her there. He is said to have set fire to the palace of Ravana and its surroundings. He served his lord in the war that ensued. When Sree Rama got hurt badly in the war Hanuman is said to have procured herbal medications for his cure from India. He is worshiped in temples in India as Lord Hanuman.
Mythical though this is, many physical evidences corroborate what is said in the "Ramayana". One very astonishing piece among them is the remnants of a bridge that is said to have been constructed for Sree Rama to cross a straight in the Bay of Bengal between Lanka and Peninsular India. It is still visible as a shallow strip of ridge under water stretching nearly thirty-five kilometres between "Dhanushkoti" in the state of Tamil Nadu, India and SreeLanka. This is known from ancient period as "Sethu" meaning bridge. Pictures of Hanuman are kept at many homes and is a symbol of loyalty and power.

HYDERABAD: This state established by Nizam ul Mulk, a governor of the Mughals in AD.1724. Eventually this became the largest Princely state in India. They were in alliance with the British. This they used to their advantage to suppress their enemies like the Marathas. Hyderabad had many feudatories. It remained under the rule of the Nizams until AD.1948 when it was forcefully annexed to India. Hyderabad state became part of Andhra Pradesh state of India. Recently Andhra Pradesh was divided into Telangana and Andhra states. The city of Hyderabad is now in the state of Telangana and enjoys being capital to both Telangana and Andhra. Thanks dohcollector. Indian coins are so perplexing that it will take a long time to understand them even if you have lots of study material. Do not worry about that! And your interest in them will make you capable of identifying them in due course . Good luck
