Got those two notes at an estate sell not long ago. How much would you have paid for the pair? $1 series 1899. $2 series 1880.   |

My first thought is, I wouldn't want them in my collection. I would hold my money, maybe save up a little more and get better notes. Notes with less problems and more eye appeal...especially the $2. Neither is rare or hard to find in better condition.
Edited to add; I see this frequently with new paper money collectors that see a bargain, and condition takes a back seat to price. Buy what you like and can be proud to display. Be patient, save your money and wait to get notes with good or great eye appeal. I am a huge advocate for quality over quantity.

The Black eagle, to me, is not a bad note. It does have hard folds,
But the color is not bad. I have seen a lot worse.
I don't have a green sheet here, nut I am thinking around $40.
The $2.00 USN is a different story. It is overall in pretty bad shape.
If I saw it for sale at $10 .... I would not by it.

If I saw it for sale at $10 .... I would not by it. I'd be asking if they had anymore if I saw that note for $10. They sell for $60+ on ebay in this condition. Your $2 is, in all honesty, worth more than the $1 Black Eagle. |

When I first looked at the $2.00, I saw what I thought was a 1917 USN.
Second look .... I would have to look up prices for that one.
When I see notes that are worn, stained and tattered.
I don't always look close enough.
I do know I do not like notes this far gone .... I know this from
experience ... I have a few

For the pair, $125 and then I got 10% off for buying more stuff.

I think that is a fair price. Both are common, but could probably bring about $150 together on the bay.

I wasn't intending on buying those, but when I was leaving, I decided why not and went ahead. The ones I see in shows are too expensive for me.

You have a good nose, it seems, but it's usually best to a have a plan in mind before you buy.
