Bureau of Engraving and Printing - Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) Director Leonard R. Olijar will unveil a new Lucky Money product at a press conference on Tuesday, November 15 at 9:30 a.m., at 14th & C Streets, SW. Journalists interested in attending this press conference must RSVP by 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14. Please arrive at BEP by 8:45 a.m. to set-up.  Director Olijar will unveil the Year of the Rooster 2017 in honor of the Chinese Lunar New Year. The Year of the Rooster 2017 features a $1 Federal Reserve note with a serial number beginning with "8888." The introduction of the Year of the Rooster 2017 is the fourth issue from BEP's second generation of the Lucky Money Lunar Calendar product line. The product's first day of sale is Wednesday, November 16 at 8:00 a.m. (ET). The Year of the Rooster 2017 and additional currency products may be purchased by telephone, toll free, at 1(800) 456-3408; by fax (888) 891-7585 [International fax (202) 874-1788]; in the Washington, DC and Fort Worth, Texas Visitor Center Gift Shops; and, through the BEP's online store, moneyfactorystore.gov. Bulk pricing is also available for the Year of the Rooster 2017.

The Mint and the BEP are just trying to keep their busy hands in collectors' pockets, and I hate that.

These bills seem to over priced a whole lot. I'd rather find my new bills at the bank when I walk in and ask if they have any new bills.

In defense of the BEP, I doubt your bank will have new currency with an 8888 start serial number. Some collectors have all or most of the "Lucky Money" notes dating back to 2002 and collect more out of tradition than of hopes of having something really valuable in the future. To me, it compares to coin collectors that buy annual Silver Eagles knowing they are paying triple or more of what spot silver is worth.
