Seeking Help To Attribute A World Countermark On An 1848 US Half Dollar

Having collected U.S. merchant counterstamps for many years now, I've never paid much attention to world countermarks. A buddy has asked me for help to attribute the below mark, and I'm unable to identify it. I suspect that it may be connected to some British possession, but that's just a guess on my part. I'm hopeful that a student of world coinage may be able to peg this countermark for us ....

@exoguy, that is an interesting one. To me, it looks most like the monogram used by King Frederick VII of Denmark.
I believe that 1848 was the year that he ascended to the throne. Here is another example:

It looks like a counterstamp used on coins for circulation in the Danish West Indies but most are not authemtic. I can not say yea or nay.

Thanks, guys. Spence, you have pegged it. It's from the the Danish West Indies. A relatively rare stamp, it is. I hope for the owner's sake, it's genuine.
