I have no doubt that one of you two will eventually collect them. Perhaps even at a discount on the secondary market.

Can't wait for the introductory coin that's supposed to be issued later this year to come out. Really interested in seeing what they look like. Hope it doesn't have that same 'token' like feel of the Presidential dollars.

I just can't get excited about this series, not the least of which has to do with the term "innovators." It's so broad and, quite frankly, boring. The only thing that I am interested in is the common obverse design. My hopes aren't too high for that though since they have such a short time to create one for the "introductory" 2018 coin...

The text reads "...if the Secretary finds that it is feasible and cost-effective, the Secretary may mint and issue a $1 coin in 2018 to introduce the series of coins described in this subsection..."

If I'm understanding what I believe to be the final version that was signed into law, the common obverse of the new coin will be the reverse of the recent Presidential dollars. Or something very similar to it. Only real difference is that IGWT will be on it. This will be yet another coin that does not have the word LIBERTY on it (It isn't specified to be on the obv, rev, or the edge) "(A) COIN OBVERSE.—The common design on the obverse of each coin issued under this subsection shall contain— "(i) a likeness of the Statue of Liberty extending to the rim of the coin and large enough to provide a dramatic representation of Liberty; "(ii) the inscription '$1'; and "(iii) the inscription 'In God We Trust'.

They need to add one more innovation to this list - a dollar coin that will actually circulate in the US.

It will be interesting to see if they manage to get the introductory issue out before the end of the year.

According to Coin News, there will be an introductory coin. "The Act also provides an option, which the U.S. Mint is taking, to strike an American Innovation $1 Coin for 2018 as a way to introduce the series." Quote:If I'm understanding what I believe to be the final version that was signed into law, the common obverse of the new coin will be the reverse of the recent Presidential dollars. Or something very similar to it. The original bill called for a depiction of Liberty, but the amended bill changed that and probably doomed this series in the eyes of many collectors, including myself.

Yes original called for a depiction of Liberty, the final called for the Statue of Liberty. Big difference.

Whole thing is a bad joke.
Remember, these are relatively small metal disks, a/k/a coins.
Let's take NEW JERSEY... most likely innovator to honor is one T.A. Edison. Even the Luddites here have probably heard of HIM.
Toe represent him, you want to put a bust and three of his best-known innovations - let's see... a light bulb, a phonograph, and the laboratory at Menlo Park (perfection of the industrial lab is probably his most important if lesser-known innovation).
Menlo Park is going to be the size (or smaller) of the Alamo on the Texas Commemorative half. Did you know there is a likeness of the Alamo on the Texas Half? Can you actually see it without a loupe?

Looks like they found it feasible and cost effective. I got this from an email from the mint. "The introductory coin will bear an obverse common to all coins in the program. It will consist of a likeness of the Statue of Liberty, and the inscriptions of "$1" and "In God We Trust." The reverse of the introductory coin will be inscribed with "United States of America" and "American Innovators," and it will include a representation of President George Washington's signature on the first U.S. patent. The inscription of the year of minting or issuance, mint mark, and "E Pluribus Unum" will be edge-incused into all coins."

Likeness... maybe like the USPS used the one in Vegas not the one on that Island off New Jersey?

Well, this isn't getting off to a great start... "The CCAC unanimously rejects the reverse designs submitted for the 2018 American Innovation $1 Coin" -- http://news.coinupdate.com/the-ccac...tion-1-coin/Quote: Round dissatisfaction with the portfolio prompted a motion to not recommend any of the reverse designs to Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. The motion passed unanimously, 10-0, and various committee members voiced their dissatisfaction with the reverse designs, the proposed obverse design, and the program in general. The legend "American Innovators" mandated by the legislation does not really match the theme of "innovation", which means ideas rather than people. The obverse featuring the Statue of Liberty looks almost exactly like the one on the Presidential dollars (hardly an innovative approach, to a near photo-realistic design). The reverse design candidates are all pretty weak. And "the CCAC is on our side", recognizing that many of us don't really want this program in the first place. I can only say with a side of and
