Upon researching this Edward penny, I was dumbfounded when I discovered how many types, subtypes along with the multiple varieties that can be found within each class.

I was hoping I could find a fellow member that had a better understanding of this coin type and could help me narrow it down or point me in the right direction.

I did find this excellent website on Edward pennies that has all of the different types and subtypes but there are just so many possibilities!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I believe it to be Edward I, Class 9b1, London Mint, c.1299-1301.

I'm happy to stand corrected as I'm more focused on the voided long cross series.

Obverse legend EDW R ANGL DNS HyB narrows down to class 1-9.

The combination of unbarred A, unbarred N and cross pattee narrows down the 8-9.

I think that's a scruffy star at the collar, although cant be sure on that. I think the crown matchs closer to 9a2-9b1, the differentiation here being the style of S - although mostly of the flan, I think this is a non composite S rather than top tilted.

Reverse - CIVI/TAS/LON/DON - City of London
