Found this while going through some rolls from a box of cents from the bank. Has a crack from rim to rim both sides. I'm hoping to find out what happen to this cent.

I can see PMD on the left at Liberty.
whats happening on the right - I'm not so sure.
looks like PMD then it looks like a planchet problem.

I would suggest weighing it, I imagine it is under 3.0 gr as is possibly much less. It is a lawnmower coin.

Why do these always look so bad? But with some devices not struck on the reverse, I'm leaning towards cracked planchet. The 2:00-4:00 areas look unstruck on both sides? The mark on Liberty looks suspicious, but the crack. How could you create that?

I did a weight and it is 2.44.

I agree that it was a defective planchet prior to being struck.

Coins that have been hit by a lawn mower are mangled.
