Quote: It's funny because my 1 ounce coin was super tight in the box, but the coins in the half sets were falling all over the place, lol. Many of us have had similar experiences, aceman920. Welcome! Quote: @GMS5 - I'm in awe and bow down before your coins. @Mike_R - if NGC reached out to you directly and told you to submit them, why wouldn't you? You'll need to provide better photos for an honest opinion from this forum.

I reached out to NGC and sent them pictures of the error and the specialist said send them in under the error category. I'm sending them in and hopefully the will give them the error designation. I will post the results

@ Jeffbuckes & @ CelticKnot - Thanks very much @ Foxwoods, I Use my FEDEX acct. for two day Economy shipping because it's the only way my coins seem to pass through customs without any hassle, I recently had a package come back from PCGS in California via FEDEX Ground. Well, Customs said no way " you cant send money except to the Royal Canadian Mint" and sent them back, then FEDEX temporarily lost them due to a system glitch, next day they found them and PCGS sent them back to me on a two day and they whipped right through customs. It didn't matter what I told customs when they phoned me, the girl couldn't grasp that you really can't go out and spend a silver 1889 O Morgan at the store that's encased in a slab. I also use FEDEX because I just don't trust Canada Post or USPS snail mail with my valuable coins.

That is a great perk....I am used to adding a week to the day the coins are shipped to me...this last shipment sat for 3 days at the regional post office 10 miles from my local one.

Great point Fox, One never knows.!!! I have earlier purchases from 2013 and 2016 that are still sealed up in the Original Mint's packaging, I believe they are still grade worthy, should they accept them. Does Anyone know IF that is a fact, as long as the package is sealed from the U S Mint, it would be accepted for grading , My intentions are just to keep them that way, BUT, should I decide to send them off, Do they Still accept these..?

Quote: ...Do they Still accept these..? As long as it's a coin they grade, the TPGs accept any coin. Are you asking if you can still get a First Strike (or similar) type of label? My understanding is yes you can, as long as the shipping package is unopened from the Mint, the package is dated and the date is in the correct timeframe required for the label.

I have 3 of the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary 2019 Proof Half Dollar Sets sealed in the US Mint shipping box. Can't decide whether or not it's worth sending them off to be graded. Suggestions please? Does anyone know if the shipping costs calculated with NGC cover the round trip. What about just having the Kennedy half graded?

The reason for keeping unopened Mint shipping boxes is for two reasons: 1)...they will remain eligible for First Strike designation (PCGS) if SHIPPED by the Mint before the cutoff date which is usually 30 days from either release or the first shipped product. This means you would have to check back and see when they were shipped AND it only applies if it is a First Strike request. NGC has to have RECEIVED the coins by the cutoff date. No coins opened or not are eligible for FR/ER after that date. No point with unopened boxes after 30 days. Obviously any TPG will grade any coin at any time 2) unopened boxes are required by both NGC & PCGS for a specific "set" designation (2011 Annie ASE set, 2006 Annie ASE set, recent Apollo half set of two). I have a couple of 2006 ASE Annie sets unopened and they will be ok for that label when submitted. Edit: I should add that another possible reason for the unopened boxes is that some will pay a tad more for sets that have not been gone over..problem though in that these could be subject to SNAD claims since, with no pics of the coins, the buyer could say they received something completely different than described. I wouldn't touch an unopened box for sale with a 10 ft pole...nor would I take the chance on selling it...not worth the grief

Quote: Does anyone know if the shipping costs calculated with NGC cover the round trip. The shipping cost indicated on the form is for the return shipping to you once the coins are graded. You'll need to pay the shipping cost separately to whatever carrier you use to ship the coins to NGC at the time you send the package. Quote:What about just having the Kennedy half graded? Sure, you can do this. If your intent is to flip the coins, then keep checking ebay sold listings to see if you think the graded sets, or just the Kennedy half dollar by itself, is the better way to go. If the coins are for your personal collection, then it's really up to you whether you want both, or any, of the coins TPG graded. Also, if you don't demand a 70 coin, then it is sometimes cheaper to just buy a TPG graded coin rather than submit yours, especially if you're submitting just one, or a few, coins.

Quote: Does anyone know if the shipping costs calculated with NGC cover the round trip. What about just having the Kennedy half graded? You pay for shipping the package to NGC (or PCGS) and the return shipping cost is noted on your submission form (dependent on coin value) If you want the "set" designation on both coins (which COULD bump up the Apollo half a bit) you have to send your unopened box to NGC. PCGS does not offer the "Set" designation. If you just want the Kennedy halves graded then open the box and check them out. The Apollo is the reason for the unopened box so NGC knows that, yes, it did come from the set and is appropriate for that label. ER and FS dates apply...

@ IngodItrust, I think it's worth it to grade them. NGC has a specific set of rules for grading the set of half dollars on their site.
