I TOTALLY stand corrected...must have read that article 10 times and blanked on the Kennedy half set..and the "enhanced reverse proof" coin... If it really goes at 100k I totally agree it will be a "grab some" item...the Apoll0 S proof won't be a biggie but the Kennedy will if they stick to the 100k and not make it part of the 750k total which, according to Coin News, it will have a separate limit The only neg would be that it looks to be clad not silver BUT that will make the price more attractive Sorry for my incorrect comments...and thanks

I'm going to try and purchase the HH of 5 of the special sets and I will also be purchasing the 5 oz proof saucer at some point. Not sure if I should risk trying to get both at the same time. The saucer will be there for awhile longer than the special sets that will sell out in no time.

Quote:and I will disagree with ebay auction prices not being the real market ...in reality they ARE the market and the market for all coins is down right now There's a few major issues I have with treating ebay auctions as real market prices. The first is who you are matters way to much. Different sellers get vastly different exposure with vastly different followings ect. You can be a no one and will almost always get less for a far superior coin than a big name seller with a following where their listings are consistently at the top. The next would be that some of the auction sellers really just have no idea how to do it successfully. Picture quality will vary greatly and be important in an auction as will timing ect. There's more that goes into it but here is the biggest issue I have with it. ebay does NOT show every listing to every buyer. They cycle them and hide them from people even if they were looking for that exact thing and they admit that in their terms that they reserve the right to hide listings and they do. With promoted listings it has only gotten worse. It;s impossible to say that's a fair market value when people literally looking for that thing are blocked from seeing it in searches because of the matrixs being used. Quote: Just because some loner decides to overpay for a BIN doesn't mean that's the real price Very true, but the reverse is true as well. Just because someone gets a steal on an auction listing doesn't make that the real price either. Quote: any in demand item will be bid up by those who want it BUT want it at their price. In theory yes, on ebay auctions not necessarily. The fact that they do not show every listing to every person, play games with where they appear in searches, cycle them depending on your sales for the month and past sales ect, means that unless you understand everything they are doing and time it exactly perfectly you are just asking to give something away for pennies on the dollar.

Ok...I understand your feelings towards ebay. I have been selling there for many years and currently I would NOT put anything up as an auction because there seems to be a decreased demand for coins right now. Maybe it's the time of the year...maybe not. So if ebay does not determine the market what does? Live prices have to be determined somewhere (consumer sale prices not dealer quote sheets)

A few updates have been published now on the US Mint site: Specifications Composition: 99.9% Silver Diameter: 3.000 inches Weight: 155.517 grams Overall Height: 0.441 inch (it has been corrected now) Mintage Limit: 100,000 across all five ounce proof silver coin product options Pictures: I have to say the obverse looks stunning... This one may sell out despite the relatively high mintage. I guess the price will determine that as well. But I doubt it will take off (no pun intended).

Quote: Mintage Limit: 100,000 across all five ounce proof silver coin product options Ummmm....isn't there only ONE If there was a MS version added in that 100k it would make things much more interesting

Even if there's only one version (proof), there may be other packaging options announced later, such as a set with any or all of the other coins. This is just covering their bases because those would be offered as separate "product options".

Unfortunately, the lunar lander looks like an old person's walking frame.
I like the idea of the bootprint.

@Foxwoods - that was the first thing that jumped out at me as well.....makes you wonder. On another note, I really like the picture of the new 5 oz flying saucer.

With these designs and the photos I've seen so far, the reflective proof looks better with the helmet while the non-reflective MS looks better with the footprint. If only they'd done each side that way...

I know a lot of people aren't too fond of the obverse of this coin, but I think it's great. I did some research and back in 2014, the HOF gold proofs sold out within minutes. Do you think he space coins will be more popular than the HOF series or lag behind?

Mluisgr81 Hard to tell at this point, but several of us have speculated in various threads about this. AFAIK, the Mint still hasn't published pricing information, household limit information or a 2019 Au pricing grid/table. Normally, these things are announced in the Federal Register and then made available on the Mint's website, but with 2 weeks to go that hasn't happened yet (the Government shutdown may have something to do with it ). If the Mint imposes a HH limit AND you then start seeing posts about dealers offering premiums for folks to buy coins for them, then get your order in quick if you want the coin.
