...and, four/five years after this quick sellout you can now get one for $50-70 below issue price. SO dump 'em quick if you get any.

ALL these recent commems have way too many minted to have any lasting value.

The Apollo saucer is unique enough that the collector in me will get one...but none of these are "all in" items

Maybe, but IMHO it's still too early to tell.

It seems as though collecting commemoratives isn't as popular as collecting series sets. So, even though the mintages are low (for the past several years well below 15K for the $5 UNCs and well below 30K for the $5 PRFs) it's still sufficient to meet current collector demand. IF it ever becomes a bit more popular to collect the commemoratives, then the low mintages may lead to significant price increases.

In the meantime, the price of Au commemoratives typically follow the price of Au + 15% or so.

Can't believe no one commented on this from the earlier link.

Coin Surcharges

Provided they turn a profit, coin sales prices will include surcharges of $50 per 5-ounce $1 silver coin, $35 per gold coin, $10 per silver dollar, and $5 per half-dollar.

Really? $50 surcharge on the Saucer? I guess that will be putting it over the $200 mark.

That being said, I am still more than likely getting one as well as a few others from this series.

Definitely getting 1 saucer here and a few of the other offerings... January is always such a bruiser for the wallet.

Someone mentioned it a bit earlier but, is it possible the government shutdown could affect the release? Not trying to make this political just curious to see if anything about them will change.

No. As I mentioned in either this thread of another thread the Mint is fully funded from it's own fund. It is immune to shutdowns

Is the Kennedy half going to be available anywhere else besides the two coin clad half set?

The 5 oz is priced right around what I figured because of the surcharge. I was initially surprised the $1 proof is priced about the same as an ASE but then remembered it's not a full oz. For sure I'll pick up the $1 proof but still up in the air on the 5 oz. So pricey but sure looks like it's going to be a nice coin. Have a feeling there's going to be a strong initial demand on these.

The half prices are just getting stupid. Plenty of countries do similar halfs for 10-15 dollars each even with the surcharge they should be no more than $20. No wonder that series died like it did

Especially since they're clad. Not even silver.
