I wonder what this is. If it's a coin, it most likely is a fake, but what is it supposed to be a fake of? Image: fake.jpg65.72 KB Edited by Sap 08/25/2008 05:49 am

The "dresses" look vaguely Kushan, but I've never seen anything quite like that before.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Truly bizarre - those look like the cutout paper figures you make as a child that are all joined up to each other. Spooky.

I don't know what it is but it looks like what you would get for being a guest at a wedding ceremony.

Turned a lot of pages to find this. Close, but I think it might be the correct time period. Will tell you more tomorrow. Image: Scan10577.jpg54.06 KB

The coin in the picture is an IMPERIAL BYZANTINE COIN from CONSTANTINUS IV, POGONATUS. A. D. Sept. 668 - Sept. 685.
Obv: Bust of Constantine IV, bearded, facing; wears helmet with cross and plume and cuirass; in r., spear held transversely; in l., shield with horseman device
Reprinted from CATALOGUE of the IMPERIAL BYZANTIME COINS in the BRITISH MUSEUM Volume II by Warwick Wroth. Page 324, Plate XXXVII 18.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for taking the trouble, WorldCoinTreasures. The obverse of your scanned image looks kind of vaguely similar. I guess my 'coin' is a crude copy of something on those lines. Thanks a lot everyone!

This is most interesting! As Zeno says, these were crude cast coins in imitation of the Kushan style, which is why I thought my coin was a fake. Turns out it's not! Usually happens the other way round. Great find DCH!
