I still think the missing reed is lame compared to the hologram, tiny lettering etc. of the British and Canada coins. There may be additional security features. The Mint won't say yet. Hopefully there's really something more. IMO USA hasn't done enough to try and get the Chinese government to stop the counterfeiting. I doubt there are many in China producing fake Chinese currency. If they want to help us avoid buying counterfeits, they are going to have to explain what is so special about the notch, and what to look for. But for dealers and collectors it does little to help stop fakes since we don't know what to look for, ineffective. As I mentioned before, Britain and Canada have better security features, hologram, tiny lettering etc. They don't have to be secret about it, right there for all to see, the new designs make it considerably more difficult to fake than prior coins. Hope I'm wrong but I question if the US Mint really has extra security featues, their silence is more bluffing than real IMO. They don't want to admit their security technology is currently substandard. I've looked at my missing reed edges with 10x loupe, can't see anything unique. If there's something there at 1,000+ magnified it won't help collectors much, most of us can't/don't look at coins at that power. macmercury Pillar of the Community United States 5832 Posts	Posted 10/16/2021 2:41 pm As long as there's real money to be made, it doesn't matter which country make the counterfeited coins, so I'm not surprise things turn out this way, but we are bias against China and US should take some blames in not tightening security measure in general. Yes the USA should do more to stop the import of fake coins. There is a lot of evidence bad USA currency is being imported to USA from China. I have never heard of anyone in the USA making fake Chinese coins and sending them to China. It's not bias it's about the facts. I don't think it is necessary for the US Mint, Bureau of Engraving and Printing (i.e., the US Treasury Department) to reveal/provide details on every anti-counterfeiting measure employed. Why provide a checklist to potential counterfeiters? I agree that the public needs to know what to look for when it examines its money, but if there are measures being used that aren't readily visible, I don't believe they need to be publicized - make things more difficult for the counterfeiters, let them figure things out on their own via trial and error.
