I was browsing through PCGS and NGC in order to figure out the costs associated with having a coin graded. I noticed two membership options (one year subscriptions, people with ANA memberships) and the option to send in your coins through a certified dealer.

I'm assuming certified dealers will charge you a fee, on top of the certification costs. Is this correct? If so, how much do dealers typically charge?

Thanks

It depends on the service and level requested. Go to the NGC/PCGS pricing tier and determine what service/level you need and the associated cost. Then add in the accessorial costs (processing fee, postage, etc.) and add a little dealer juice and voila ... your fee. This is the way to go if you have one or two coins to submit for a one-time submission. Otherwise you'll save buying a personal membership.

p.s. - the dealer will usually only do this for a regular customer and only when they have a submission scheduled. I tried it once and was told by the dealer it would be around a month before he submitted. I gave him my phone number and checked back a couple of times ... never did contact me. I ended up getting a one-year PCGS membership.

On NGC submissions, you actually can submit direct without a membership with NGC or an ANA membership. You can submit coins through ebay. No minimum coins to submit or restrictions.
