Double Strike Or Double Die ? How To Tell ?

I'm just not sure what I am looking at. Here are two examples I have run across. Let me know what you think. Report this Post to the Staff

Cujohn Pillar of the Community United States 7174 Posts	Posted 04/20/2022 7:49 pm to the CCF The 88 is split plate, where the plating is split from the zinc. Eventually that will result in zinc rot where the D will corrode off. A double strike is when a planchet is struck twice, you will have 2 strikes on the coin. A Doubled Die is where the die itself is doubled, all planchet struck with that die are doubled. A double struck coin is a one off. Report this Post to the Staff

Cujohn Pillar of the Community United States 7174 Posts	Posted 04/20/2022 8:04 pm A one off is the definition of something that there is just one of. No 2 alike. A double strike can be anything from 2 complete images on the coin to just a little of both on the coin. Report this Post to the Staff
