My goal is always the same every year, to add at least one more piece to my early large cent variety collection. I've done well, so far I have added two new varieties and upgraded two. (I don't normally upgrade but I couldn't pass them up.)
I added a 1794 S-45 R-5+, and a 1796 NC-3 Draped Bust R-6+ (about 18 known).
My upgrades were 1794 S-72 from a Pr-1 to a F-12, and an 1800 S-198 R-5+ from a Pr-1 to a VG-8, ninth finest known. (at one time it was the third finest known.)

Well... my year's resolutions are complete. 1. Become a bust half wizard.Here is my proof: 2. Attend the World's Fair of Money in Pittsburgh show.Don't have many good photos so here is a doubled edge I cherypicked there: 3. Write an article for the JRCS Journal.For those in the club, look for the article titled "Collecting Mint Error Capped Bust half dollars" in the next journal!

@Dearborn: Quote: And Helder - ya gotta get on the ball and buy, buy, buy! LOL!! you do that to helder, too? my goading is a bit subtle, I just send him pictures of gold & wait a few days, inevitably I get blamed for the next gold coin he acquires. I wear that blame proudly. anything for a friend & fellow collector. anyway.. I just had a look at my post from pg 3, I forgot what I posted; there's still a good chunk of the year to get thru. as the year wanes i'll post my achieved goals.

@mr pink and @dearborn,
You guys are just trouble makers! I look at John's coins and want silver and then pink sends me pictures of gold coins and I want those also. But those gold coins are not cheap so I have to save up!
But then you have coinfrog that sends me currency pictures and then I want currency also.
It's difficult with so much tempting!!!

Well its Sept 29, 2023 and I'm not going to get anything tomorrow, here are my updates. Quote: 1) Complete the 3 missing coins from my 7070 type set. This is really low priority. The 3 missing coins just don't excite me for what they cost. So it most likely won't even be looked at. We'll I changed it up to include the gold page and added 3 gold coins. Quote:2) Complete the slabbed IHC set. Missing only 9. May get a few but I doubt I'll complete the set in 2023. No updates. Quote: 3) Get any missing notes from my US currency type set. I have a few fractionals that I am interested in and maybe another large sized. Added a few large notes to the set. Quote: 4) Get the following from the US Mint: a) Women's quarter in Silver Proof - Purchased b) Innovation Dollars Proof Set - Not yet available c) Get the Peace/Morgan proofs and reverse proofs.-Only got the proof d) Get the Peace for 2023, Morgans are ?- Purchased Quote: 5) Add to my Portuguese Coin Type Set No coins from Portugal added. Quote: 6) Add to my Portuguese Currency Type Set. Added 2 new notes, including this one from 1799.

I see my entry here (page 5) was nearly 6 months ago. Instead of acquiring coins, I coauthored my 4th article in BCCS journal, so I guess that's something. Recently bought the last of the trifecta of 1901-O dime hub type combos, an AU58 1901-O with Obverse 2 Reverse 3, and added another * to my list.  Here's the full list as it stands now. I'm not sure if I'll ever go for the 1901 proofs. Otherwise I have 2 left, both a little pricey. 1899-P Reverse 1 * 1899-P Reverse 2 (anomaly, less common) ** 1900-S Reverse 1 (anomaly, scarce) ** 1900-S Reverse 2 * 1901 Proof Reverse 2 (slightly less common) 1901 Proof Reverse 3 1901-P Reverse 2 (less common) * 1901-P Reverse 3 * 1901-O Obverse 1 Reverse 2 (obverse anomaly, scarce) ** 1901-O Obverse 2 Reverse 2 (slightly less common) * 1901-O Obverse 2 Reverse 3 * 1901-S Reverse 2 1901-S Reverse 3 (scarce) * 1902-S Reverse 2 (anomaly, less common) * 1902-S Reverse 3 * 1903-S Reverse 2 (anomaly, common) * 1903-S Reverse 3 (scarce) ** 1904-S Reverse 2 (anomaly, less common) * 1904-S Reverse 3 1905-S Reverse 2 (anomaly, scarce) * 1905-S Reverse 3 * * Have coin ** Have more than one 21 total of 10 dates/mints

Quote: Instead of acquiring coins, I coauthored my 4th article in BCCS journal,[quote] I also did not acquire a single coin last quarter (first time since 2017), though I had some success in auctions this week. I got wrapped up learning about historic cemetery preservation (which I commented on over on this thread: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...IC_ID=111133 ), and was also traveling a lot now that I'm fully retired.

When 2023 began, my only "goals" were US Mint releases. The upcoming Morgan & Peace dollars Reverse Proof set remains the most anticipated addition to my silver commemoratives collection. As my interest in Medallic Art Company (MACO) medals grew, a goal took shape: Obtain at least one bronze example of the key series medals struck by MACO. These are the series where I met the goal; in the highlighted examples, I obtained a complete set. The Society of Medalists The Hall of Fame for Great Americans at New York University Statehood Art Medals (distributed by Presidential Art Medals, Inc - [PAM] ) Signers of the Declaration of Independence [PAM] National Parks Centennial Presidential Art Medals - [PAM] Great Men of Medicine - [PAM] Famous Black Americans Liberty National Memorial ShrinesWorld War II [PAM] Aviation Hall of Fame [PAM] Apollo Series [PAM] Great Religions of the World [PAM] Presidential Inaugurals Annual Calendar Series Whenever I visit the MACO specimen archive, I manage to find additional series of interest. I jot them down for future reference in my "collecting" notebook. 2024 is on the way. . .
