Blastenpene4 Pillar of the Community United States 959 Posts	Posted 10/07/2023 8:11 pm A while back I mentioned that I had bought another coin to experiment on. A decent EF45 coin with some issues - just what I wanted. Here are the results so far. First two pics are seller's pics on-line.Next pic (4-split) compares my pictures of the coin as received (on the right) with the coin after using acetone, VerdiCare and Classic Coin Conditioner. Last set is using all three again with a gentle wet toothpick under high magnification. I was particularly interested in the reverse verdigris and trying to lessen it. Can't see it getting any better than this. Thoughts? Report this Post to the Staff

I've been trying a few ideas to further neutralize the verdigris and gently remove the greenish scale. This coin was a good test for this process. I have resoaked in acetone to remove any other chemicals. I have also continued to use targeted applications of both Verdicare and Classic Coiin Conditioner with mild agitation with a soaked toothpick. This is the final result of my testing on this coin. Can't see anything else I could do without being too aggressive. I'm not dissatisfied with the result, but I'm eager to learn more about this. Comments welcome. Report this Post to the Staff

If it is just a test coin and you want to make additional - non-agressive attempts (IMHO) - you might consider a weak (2-3%) sodium sesquicarbonate solution for 3-6 hours. It could help lift that final staining without impacting anything else. If the Reverse rim is well-defined you could probably spot apply on the rear as opposed to a whole coin dunk - distilled water based so no viscosity to solution. Wet qtip agitation at end of soak too. Optional repeat at a longer interval - or up the solution a % or two - if comfortable. I always seal with VC as a final step after a 24-hr dryout.
