Hi, here`s a hard to identify 1859 .Seems like any doubling could be wear but not sure. My closest guess is a PC59-103 but obverse seems off. Any input appreciated . Narrow gap at vine 7 ,PC59-223 is wide I believe .Coin is worn around the edge so hard to get a read on any die cracks. The few I think may be there don`t match anything I can find, probably old damage .

Without clearer photos, it's hard to tell exactly what the D/C at 7 is and is there one at 5 as well. The best part of the coin is the off-center Obverse REALLY evident. Someone didn't align the die first or a small planchet. It's a keeper

Here`s a pic of leaf 5 and 7. As mentioned excessive wear around the edge compared to the rest . I was so busy looking for die cracks etc. never even noticed the off set, thanks.   |

Well, I don't see any D/C's on either 5 or 7.

It`s a tuff one ,I keep chasing shadows or old damage it seems. Thought PC59-103 because such a close match on leaf 9 stem, no other indicators I can see for that one. Heavy die clash along top of the head but can`t find a match.

if you look at leaf 7 on the bottom photo of the first 3 you can faintly see the die crack

Thanks, I see it. Another possible under the right light at leaf 12 as well but can`t find either on the D/C list . You must have a good screen .
Believe me when I say not much different in hand under the loupe due to the edge wear .

I think may have identified it. PC59-20 with the E10 reverse at a later state. I thought the edge wear was different than usually seeing but after reading seems it`s die wear, quite different than usual usage wear for sure. Lots to learn.
Any confirmation before I label and wrap it up appreciated.

Yes, your coin is PC59-20. The E10 reverse was one of the longest used reverse dies for the 1859's and in the later states there were a lot of weakened areas because of Die Deterioration. Even the stem to leaf 9 looks different in the early and late states. Good work identifying that one! |

Thank you . Two of those now ,the first is an early state so very different looking coin .
