I had it under a 16× loupe, and it's definitely not the "D-over-S" variety. It's a clear, very well defined "D", but for 5¢ you can't beat that!  |

CONGRATS on 500 posts there sfwusc! and that's a fine nickel you have there. I can always tell when a Buffalo nickel is hiding in a roll. The Jefferson's have clothespins on their noses. |

Thank you on the congrats! You can't blame us for trying :). Super nice find. I haven't found a non dateless Buffalo nickel in a roll yet. Best none silver find has to be my 1915d wheat, 1909 P wheat or 1900 IH. No great nickel finds! -SFWUSC Edited by sfwusc

Last year I was thrilled to find a 1935 (P) VF full-date full-horn Nickel in a roll, and I'd say that this Nickel tops it, even though it is missing the tip of the horn. Indeed, most of us are quite pleased to find even a dateless Buffalo in a roll!  |

Super find, DNA! I haven't found a Buffalo nickel in change in a long time, but I do occasionally put one INTO circulation. I buy a lot of dateless nickels for my ebay endeavors and sometimes I'll find one with a nice solid date but which has some other problem - like corrosion or being dark - and I'll spend it. It's always with the hope that it will spark an interest with someone, ideally a youngster, but I guess I'll never know. By the way, I have a friend who last year completed his "quest" to acquire a whole mint bag (4000 pieces) of thes 1938-D's. That's a LOT of '38-D's! |
