Pocket_Change Valued Member United States 129 Posts	Posted 12/05/2009 11:39 pm I am about to put a few coins in long term storage and wanted to dip them in Acetone as a precaution. I've done some reading here and am aware that it can be dangerous and plan to take the necessary safety measures. I know the Acetone needs to be pure, and I THINK that's what I picked up but I read the ingredients just to be sure and noticed denatonium benzoate is included. From what I this is just a bittering agent added to prevent ingestion. The question is, Will this damage my coins? Thanks for the help. Report this Post to the Staff

I do not soak coins in acetone for more than a few hours and then I remove them and rinse in cool, running water and pat dry. I'm sure you could find better quality acetone and use distilled water but for the coins I use it on, standard acetone and tap water works well. Most of the coppers I'm playing with are Lincoln Wheats and a few IHC here and there. None are worth over $20. ANA #R3154474 Report this Post to the Staff
