I have a dilema. I have purchased, from my bank a total of $2,600.00 worth of Presidential dollars, starting with washington all the way up to the last issue of 2009. When these came out I thought they would be the next latest and greatest thing. I have subsequently bought them in PF70 and USmint packs. I recently heard that there is like 850 million dollars worth sitting in mint vaults because nobody wants them. Mine are all P mint mark. I have an oppurtunity to purchase a 1907 St. gaudens Gold PCGS ms69 and a 2006 ngc ms69 gold buffalo for that same amount. your opinion if I should keep these pres. dollars or go for the gold. Thanks all.

That's a no brainer! Get the GOLD! The presidental coins are pretty unpopular with collectors and I just don't see them gaining in value much.

I vote......... GO FOR THE GOLD !Early in the Presidential dollar series.....I had a "similar" thought too. But, in large part to participation in CCF here, I quickly realized that this was a "folly" endeavor. Now, I only get enough BU examples to put into albums. And I do still buy a Proof Set of these each year, to, one day put into a Proof Presidential dollar album....really just because I want to, and I think the album will look really good. But "stockpiling" rolls or purchasing "slabbed" Prez. dollars is NOT something I will do nowadays.

I agree with the above. Go for the gold!! If you like the prez. dollars maybe put together an album of them, but no reason to have 2700 of them.

Go for the gold. Regardless of the grade, In the long run, the gold will be your best bet.

thanks guys, I really wasn't stockpilling but rather was figuring the worst I could do is exactly as it has come to in that I have put some money away and now may be able to put it toward something much more desireable.

Keep one of each President, maybe two, then use the rest to get the gold.

I would say go with the classic gold. Not a fan of the modern bullion stuff.

I would go with the gold.
I would just have to ask myself a couple question. Could I lose ... money or could I make money. Or would I care because I want to own a couple of very cool coins. Gold could go up .. some say maybe to $2000 ... then you made a very good deal. Gold could go back sometime in the next few years .. to say $700 - $800. If so might lose a little on the buffalo, I would think the Saint Gaudens would hold its price.
For me I would fall back to .. couple of very nice coins that most collectors would love to have.

made the deal and got $50 more dollars off for buying both coins. thanks for all the input. Know the risk on the bullion coin is more than the st. gaudens, but no risk means no reward. I think if I were to have kept the pres. dollars and they did no go up in any value, I would have lost anyways due to inflation over time. I expect to keep these coins for many years up into retirement, If I don't need to sell them to live on, they will be handed down to my children;
