My-First-Bustie---Grading-Help?

I've no idea why I bought this, but you guys seem to have so much fun talking about them....

Anyways, this is a scan but it's pretty faithful to the actual color. What does the membership think?

Very nice, Dave! Nice strike, too. I see it as a VF30. A few too many flattened areas to make it to EF, but a beautiful coin.

In all honestly, I had it figured as having a remote shot at 25, and (over)paid VF20 money for it. There is actually a method to my madness - the day will come when I'm bored with Morgans, and these are just truly nice looking coins in circulated condition. A set in VF-XF looks doable, with a couple of minor exceptions.

One of the things that I like about Bust halves is that they wear well. They stay attractive almost all the way to VG.

The 1830 Bust Half dollar was my first truly old collectable coin. I got it from my grandfather in 1957. He had gotten it in change - it was the first money he earned after graduating from High School in 1904. So 100 years ago, these old Half Dollars were still seen in pocket change!

By the way, I also kept the first money I ever earned working. I made 50 cents for cutting down a hedge and my pay was a 1943 Half Dollar.

I would agree with the grade here - nice VF20.

Has anyone an opinion on the Overton Variety here?

This is clearly one of the 4 Large 0 varieties. There are 23 die marriages used in 1830. From the position of the I in the motto under the T in STATES - you have only one possibility - the Overton 122.

It was represented as O-122 on sale.

nice I agree vf With further attributes gunmeal grey color and as the die master said overton-122
