Ever since I join this site last year. It has given me the motivation to organize my coins and try to complete some sets.
I think I have now taken my collection in a positive direction,
and I thank many of you for your input, and good ideas I get from reading your threads.

In the process I have been breaking up a lot of mint and proof sets.

The one denomination I was not collecting was Kennedy half dollars.

I see there are a lot of roll searching going on with half dollars but I am guessing that is mostly for the silver coins, which is good too.

But what I am wondering is, if you are collecting Kennedy half sets, and how are you doing it?

Are you using 2X2's, Dansco or Whitman albums?
Are you doing just P and D's or maybe proofs too.

I am asking to see if there are any interesting ways you are collecting them. I have so many of them I would like to do something with them.

I was able to fill my Kennedy whitman folder about 3 mos into roll searching. P and D, had to wait a month or two more for the 1970(D), was the only half they had a the little bank in Walmart, (my wife dragged me there).

I'm doing a dansco that I've filled almost entirely from circulation (yes, I found some silvers for the mid 60's). I wasn't too hard since you can go through a roll really fast, I would just call a bank to see if the had a lot of rolls and I would spend some time there searching through them, when I was done I handed them back for cash. There are a few years that will give you trouble but 95% from circulation is very feasible.

I have several sets and cherry pick my coins from half dollars in circulation. Anything with a mintage of less than 20 million gets special attention from me. All others are returned unless they are bu. Complete sets are possible to build from circulation although the nifc pieces are really rare in bank rolls. Sincerely, John Leckrone

I have a complete set that I bought 4 or 5 years ago, all BU and Proof -clad and silver. I add to it each year with BU's and I get an extra proof set each year to crack for all my proofs, but I get sliver proofs individually because I only need the dime and half. They are kept in a Dansco, which filled up a few years ago and I need to get the update page. I have the coins (07,08, 090, just need the page!

My Dansco is mostly full from mint sets that I started buying when I first started collecting. Luckily (depending on how you look at it), I bought all the harder dates in mint sets, so I only need a few common years left that I will probably just buy BU since they are common years.

I am currently working on a intercept shield album of Kennedy halves. I have 1964 through 1977 complete. I'm going to post pics when I have more of it complete. I've been very picky and looked through lots of coins to try and pick out MS 65+ and Proof 68 + coins.

When I was about 3/4 done with my ASE Dansco, I decided I liked it so much that I got
Danscos for most of all the modern denominations. I had a wide assortment of mint sets,
proof sets, and silver proof sets as well... So I broke them all down and filled some
holes in each album. Then I went into my Whitman folders I have had since I was a kid
and put them in as place holders until I break down more mint sets.

I am not partial to JFK halves, but it is a very impressive set in the unc/proof Dansco.

All my albums are unc/proof except the Washington... I need to upgrade that one.

I still need to pick up some State Quarter books and prez dollar books.

I am presently engaged in building a Dansco with Proofs. I had a few BU NIFC's, and a few pre-'2002 that I could put in there....but mostly I busted Sets to acquire what I need.
A lot of these Sets are really cheap so, it's really do-able.
I still haven't busted any Sets that " I " had already....though I'm certainly tempted !
There will be some super nice Kennedys going in my Type Set Dansco too.

Though I have a lot of Kennedys too, like you....silver and non-silver....I wanted a very high quality Set, so MOST of what I had just would not do, for a Dansco !
I would say I'm somewhere around 70% done....it's definately fun, and it's given me coins to start (or add to) other Sets with too.

IMO....the Kennedy half album (except for a couple of em') is able to be completed in a short time for, not all that much money. It wasn't that I'm all that partial to Kennedy....or the coin.....I just wanted a nice top quality Set of these, because when it's done it will really look nice. And I just feel that every coin collector should own a completed Set of them ! ....

Now if Congress and the Mint will just end production of them, so that I can put my FINAL one in there soon !! ....

Sounds like there are a lot of nice sets, that you all have. Some done, some on the way to completion.

I have been looking into how I want to collect these. I am pretty sure I will do a P and D set, if Dansco makes a album like that.

Most of my Dansco's are both UNC's and proofs, Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, Sacagawea and when I order the Roosevelt album.

But for this one I wanted to do something different. For the proofs I am going to put them into a Dansco Half dollar album with blank pages. I like how the proofs look with each other. And for a twist I am going to put some proof commemorative half dollars. For example: A 1982 proof George Washington will be between a 1982 and 1983 proof Kennedy.

Has anyone seen this done .. or thinks it is a crazy idea.

Dansco makes your choice... either an Unc or Unc/proof album.
The uncs start with a 7 part number, the unc/proof is an 8 part number.

For some reason, the proof bug has not caught on with me yet. Am I sick or something?

None of my Dansco's have the proof option, business only. But, that's not the reason I have shyed away from them, I intentionally bought them without the proof slots. Maybe some kind of "working man's coin" syndrome?

Is there something wrong with me? Or does it just finally hit you like a ton of bricks?

I collect gem raw uncs and high grade proofs. I used to look through a lot of rolls but they got tough to find so mostly look at mint and proof sets.
