from what both NGC and PCGS has answered me with, they both have no intentions of attributing this VAM even though both of them have registry sets that include all other B1 reverse Morgans. NGC has a set specific to the B1's and they still would rather not attribute this one and let their registry set be incomplete end with VAM-84. I thought maybe because there haven't been any others found but that can't be the case since they attribute the 21-D 1X and there has never been any more of those (and chances are they won't ever) and they have that coin included in some registry sets also even though only 1 person could ever have 100% completed it. Maybe its just who the person is who owns the coin and how well known that person is on what makes them decide to attribute the coin or not

Remmy, as I understand it you and Oz wrote the B1 Attribution guide, if so are you planning on adding the 85 to the page now, or are you just going to leave it as is? The reason I ask is I am trying to get it added to as many pages as possible so we can get a idea of how many there are out there so maybe I can get the TPG's to recognize it

Bryan if your last name were Eliasberg, Lee, etc, You bet, the TPG'S would recognize and attribute this coin, IMO... It is not always what you know, I believe, It is also who you know, that certainly helps things along!!

yeah well sooner or later they either will or wont attribute it. I would think NGC would want to since their B1 Reverse registry set is now incomplete without it being added but oh well. I may have a few people talking to the TPG's to let them know how significant this find is and they may decide to attribute it but may take some convincing unless some more are found

Well guys and gals it looks like the second one has been found and sold on teletrade for $3200.00 tonight and it was a MS-63DPL http://teletrade.com/coins/lot.asp?...952&lot=1403 That is real high for a 78 MS-63DPL considering PCGS guide lists it at $450.00 so someone knew what it was

Sort of like when you buy a new car, all of a sudden, you see them everywhere you go!!1 Not quite, but you see the point......
I believe there are some people out there with slabbed coins, which are the 85's and people just NOW are really looking for the coin, in every venue they can find, like I am/would........

yeah, still think its going to be kind of rare since there are VAM-80's with Pl and DPL fields. I have 2 VAM-80's in PL so that tells me the reverse die didn't last long for the Obverse to still have PL fields and not be re-polished or anything. The pl VAM-80's I have have deep proof fields so it was probably not long after the die change. I still think this is going to be one of the rare ones. This is only 2 allot of other 1878 collectors have looked and came up with nothing so far so 2 is still not allot of them. I figured if more was going to be found it would be done in the first 6 months. after the buyers premium the one on TT sold for over 3500.00 and its a MS-63dpl. I hope more is found to make the TPG's decide they will attribute it, if prices stay like this on them they may just get persuaded to do so since they will want it in their slab

with all the attributions (VAMS) that are being discovered daily, I can see why they don't want to list every new VAM, as in many cases, revisions seem to be a constant ongoing thing.....many years have not been through the scrutiny as some of the years recently being evaluated for the entire series....with that said, a second coin found as 1878 VAM 85 in PL only confirms that there was a die that was different from the VAM 80, being found now in PL or DMPL can only mean there were not that many.......and as luck would have it, yours IS THE TOP POP!!worth far more than $3200......AND THE DISCOVERY COIN.....and in this case also......I believe this rare B1 coin will now be accepted as there is more than one, giving Proof to its existence...i think with all things considered, ANAC's will accept this coin.....

ANACS would attribute it as soon as I got the letter from LVA. I want PCGS or NGC to do it. And these are DMPL not PL. there has been no PL VAM-85's found. If there were that would prove the die lasted longer than I thought which can't be because if that were the case there would be no DMPL VAM-80's. I just think PCGS and NGC should do it since they have all the other B1 reverse Morgans in their registry sets and heck NGC has just a B1 Reverse set that now stops at VAM-84A (they call it VAM-84 with clashed E)

I believe I do have the 84A with the clashed E, the washed out L,,, but still an 85 is now established.....I would venture to say this is rocking there VAM world!!in such a few short weeks!I don't know what to think about it....Why should they discredit. or suddenly search for something that should have been found already....never has a new discovery been thoughly disclaimed and researched at the same time....Its like denying and accepting at the same time....

So far mine and the one that sold on Teletrade is the only ones I know for a fact to be VAM-85. There is a rumor of one or two more being found but when asked for pictures those people have disappeared so right now I bundle those up with the my aunts grandmaws brother's step son has one type of things

I can think of one person over on the other site that probably has a pretty good population of B1 reverses in DMPL, but since he was key in helping with the logistics of your coin designation, I imagine that he may have already checked his own vaults by now.
