CSOTUS, I don't get on the floor but my 8 y/o son does and he has twice found silver by doing so, a merc and a 49-s rosie along with numerous other coins, both U.S. and foreign. The reject bin so far is hit and miss but no silver that I remember finding.
Yesterday I went to our bank though with my 10 y/o and was putting his change into the counter to deposit it and noticed while it was counting that there were several coins in the reject bin.......7 to be exact, all foreign and from 5 diff countries!

In the coin return, I found a 1944 philippines 5 centavos that said "United States of America" on it.
It was neat finding it as I had no idea that these existed.

I literally just got one of them in the mail today with a huge group of coins. Mine is a 1944-S in XF or AU condition. It's worth a few bucks.

I always look underneath the machine when I walk past it as I'm leaving the store. I get on all fours and actually look down there. I've found a couple of neat coins down there. When I first walk in the first thing I do is to check the reject slot and the top of the machine. I don't remember finding anything interesting if anything at all off the top.
Most of my silver finds, however, have been in the reject bin. I'm guessing the reason the silver gets rejected is because the clad quarter weighs 5.67 grams while the silver quarter weighs 6.25 grams and the machine is programmed to reject coins that deviate from the weights of common modern coinage. The clad dime weighs 2.27 grams while the 90% dime weighs 2.50 grams. It would probably not make financial sense to program the machine to accept coins that weigh 2.5 grams for the occasional silver dime that might go through the machine. The coin companies wouldn't be selling the silver at melt value anyway, they would deposit it into a bank or roll it or whatever they do with the change they collect and treat it like a regular coin with no collectible value. I just hope they never modify the machines to accept silver coins.

I found $2.84 face value today plus the Mexican dollar. Since I last posted Dec 30, 2015, I have found $2.11 in common change plus this stuff: (so $3.41 in total + a foreign coin) Normally I wouldn't think a dollar coin was all that special, but in a Coinstar machine? Who the heck throws away a buck? After years of not finding a silver quarter in the wild, my wife and I have each found one about six months apart. I wonder if this one had been disguising itself as a worn out 1965. :) I'll put $3.41 into my Salvation Army jar. That, plus what was already in the jar, makes my contribution for 2016 more than 2015 with about 10 months to go.

Found 3 clad dimes and a mid 90s nickel in the reject tray last night at grocery store. No silver, but a free 35 cents is ok with me

I bring a yardstick with me and sweep the underneath of the Coinstar machine with it. This way you get the coins that are far underneath it.

Mercury dime was the best I ever found. Usually it's foreign coins.
