Not exactly a coinstar find, but was found in my banks coin counting machine... a 1923 Peace dollar. Heard it banging around after I dumped my haul in in the lobby. when it was done counting I raised up the top and saw big silver.

I love checking the coinstar slots. Over the past 6 months or so I have found 3 silver coins ( 1 War Nickel and 2 dimes) and a bunch of clad. I have also found 1919 1928 1934 d and 1943 wheat pennys and a bunch of foreign coins ( cuba, the isle of man, zambia, fuji, etc.....) so coinstar has been really helpful in expanding my collection. I have also found 3 or 4 tokens several of which are $1 car wash which I plan on using. But yesterday I found this... Never thought I would be excited to find a zinc penny!

I got an '84-O Morgan out of a cash register about a year ago. I lived in an apartment complex that has a convenience store in it and I got to know the guy who owns it. I always asked him to put back "big coins" for me. I would have liked to say "put away all pennies before 1959, all nickels before 1960, dimes and quarters before 1965 and half dollars before 1971 along with any other unusual coins including errors and die cracks" but he doesn't have the time to sift through the change in the drawer several times a day looking for treasure, but I thought just asking for half dollar sized and larger coins would be reasonable. I got a couple of Kennedys here and there, including one 1968, and an Ike. One day I was in there and asked if they had any "big coins". The clerk said "yes" and I didn't think they understood me at first. A few seconds later the clerk handed me a coin. I could tell that it was larger than a half dollar so I thought to myself "Score! An Ike!" until I looked at it closer and saw what it was. My jaw hit the floor and my pulse and blood pressure must have gone through the roof. I was offered $50 on the spot for it but I wouldn't take it. There's just something satisfying about finding coins in circulation that you don't feel when you purchase coins from a coin shop.
Incidentally, I went to this store last week and he said he had a coin that he thought might be silver. He pulled out a 1967 (or 1968, I can't remember) Kennedy 40%. I was able to emphatically declare that it is indeed silver. He seemed really proud of it so I didn't try to buy it. It was in really good shape and had lots of mint luster and a beautiful white color. Maybe next time I go in there I'll make him an offer for it. What would an AU/BU 1967/8 half be worth?

My word, Illegaltender! What a find! Congrats!
As for me, my 3 Coinstar machines have produced very little this week. I got 4 cents out of them today - nothing good. Oh well, there's next week!
CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

Thanks guys! You can imagine the shock I got after pulling it out. I was on my way back from work and "Happened" by the the King soopers on colfax ave. There is a safeway right across the street and that is where the penny was. Today I found a 2 euro coin from italy and a 20 and 5 cent euro coins at 2 separate kings. I hope next week goes better for you, john

Thursday night I went to a meeting and on the way home stopped off at a store I seldom go to. Hit the silver dime. First silver since June 25. Since then I found two clad dimes, two copper Memorial Lincolns, three zinc Lincolns and this stuff: So $0.35 more to the Salvation Army jar. I'm way ahead of last year's total already.
