What do you suggest then Coppoercoins. Can I trust you to take the photo of the coin personally and send the coin back to me.

I don't have time. You would need to find someone with either specialized lenses or a microscope. Most non-SLR cameras cannot do any better without a microscope than you already have.

Hey Cud Wild- I photograph and sell coins all day long- I would take photos of it with my scope and send it back to you if it'd save you the trouble of going to a professional photographer. -Chris.

Thank you we'll see what happens tomorrow. If the photos turn out then I wont need to. Its not going to cost me anything from the professional photographer plus shes going to show me how to use the dang thing for future coins.

Cool, hope it works out. For the record- a $300 scope can do things that a $5,000 camera can't. A quality scope is a very worthwhile investment for anyone who's serious about die varieties.

That much is very true. Most of the photos on coppercoins.com were taken with a $200 camera and a $300 microscope. I have a $2,000 camera that cannot do the same thing.

Would it be a good idea to send this coin to ANACS. If so how much would it cost? I'm thinking about sending a few cois there including The Black Beauty.

Liveandievarieties and Coppercoins, that's interesting, as those marker photos on that coppercoins website leave nothing to the imagination. I'd have thought those photos were from a very expensive camera. Rather, the trick is in the scope.

Cud Wild - I frankly believe both coins you are referring to are normal and would be a waste of time and money to send to any grading company. But if you are bent on it, then do it. Nobody can stop you.

Eddiespin - optics and lighting is where it ALL is. The camera is just a tool to capture what the lighting and optics bring to the table.

I didnt ask for your opinion on the matter because I'm 100% postive on this coin its either an error or variety. Now the nickel on the other hand its a chance I'm willing to take with a good posibility its a Black Beauty nickel. All I really asked was how much it would cost. Another thing when I get the pictures today you'll see for yourself whats on this coin. Since you never even wanted to bother to see this coin for yourself in person then its your loss.

I looked at the pictures you provided yesterday and took a second look today, but I still don't see anything out of the ordinary. I see some bag marks and such but no doubling. Between this post and my post on your black beauty thread, I don't want to seem negative or hostile, but in my opinion, this is just a regular penny.

For anyone who truly wants high quality photos- AmScope, at https://www.amscope.com makes several models of stereo scopes, free standing microscopes which come with 10MP digital camera, software and cords, For under $250 delivered.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see anything like that. I see a 10MP camera that alone costs $459. I also see a 90X scope with a 1.3MP camera for $640. Can you post a link to what you're talking about?

Yeah, that's a 30x max and is no where near 10MP, it's only 640 x 480 resolution.
